Black Leather Christmas....

I always start off the Xmas season with a nice purchase for me. As long as rent is covered and I can afford it. That way, come the big day I'm never let down around the christmas tree. I have no girlfriend or significant other nor have I had one for some time. So, I'm really my own Santa thease days. My...

Spot Crush

well, I guess I'm jaded.....

We seem to have a hit on our hands if the audience response is anything to on. Yesterday was opening night which is kind of like playing your first game as a home team. With the audience full of industry types, friends and family I never try to gauge a shows potential from that kind of audience. But,...

Super Trouper......

54.75 hours and change of Disney music..... I feel like Noriaga after a week in his palace after the invasion.

Several days of tech and four preview shows under our belt and the L.D. is still designing. She ran out of time due to the strangely compressed rehearsal /tech period for a show of this size. Up until now, in the second act...

Yeah that's me, the brunette. I've always been introverted and shy, social anxiety and everything, so I never go out and meet people. I hardly have any friends much less been in a serious relationship blackeyed
linkismyhero:
It'll happen, some day. I'm in no hurry smile I've met a lot of great people through SG, I know I have it in me to make friends outside of the internet. That's the thing, I'm pretty different online than in real life. It's a lot easier for me to express myself on here. I've always had a fear of getting really close with people, so I've always pushed people away. I'm working on it.

Once again into the breach....

The prerig of Beauty is going better now. I've recovered from the ennui that shook me during the pre hang. The great thing so far is the full time guys ( The heads ) are all new, operating in new permanent positions since the last contract was signed. The H.E. H.S. and Stage Carp still don't know where everything is,...

Sunday night's allright for industrial music....

My regular hang out is currently at Sonar for sundays. Sanctuary ( Which will be moving to Celebrities on Davie street once the new owners turn Sonar into a rock bar again.) is fun for the voyeurist inside me. All those lovely, pale, goth industrial girls in black dancing to the music. (One girl is this petite long...

Sign o The Times...

I think something else is calling me.....

I'm up at the Stanley again. Setting up "Beauty And The Beast.' And I made show crew. ( Which I always do seeing as I'm the senior fuck there... my regular gig. Followspot for Christmas and New years.) The rest of the crew and much of cast are old friends who've all coalesced here...

I read your whole posting. I have had times in my life where my job is not that fullfilling. I learned over time it was up to me to make it better. I understand you're feeling underwhelmed by you new "spot" job. You even said you had ideas how to make the show more exciting and you felt you had more then enuff knowledge to do your job properly. Maybe you should get a good lighting plan together do some work and then present your idea to your superior. I have learned in my days in business there is a good way to go about this. It's callled a sandwich. Start off with good then go to bad then finish off with good.

So say to your boss the show is fun and good but you had some ideas that might make it even better then it allready is Just cuz its a show for kids doens't mean you have to go soft. You think Disney went soft? MacDonalds restaraunt goes soft? Matel toys goes soft? All because kids are their audience... Nope they went top dollar and full on in their attempt to please kids.

Now on the other hand Vancouver is in it's dreppression season. The weather, Lack of day light, constant rain, etc. It's the time of year to find things that we enjoy todistract us from mother natures attempt to depress us.

You said my Photo Hair thing was great to meet chicks. I put up with lots of shit from friends and family thinking I was gay or sumthing, but lil did they know I was just sneeking into the womans world for moments at a time to figure them out. I have had lots of fun and opportunity to meet women but to be honest my true love is for the art sake and not the booty but it is a bonus.

STR8 . ARRR!!!
dmac:
Funny thing about reading your posting is I was just talking to an actor friend of mine today who said many of the same things you did. The frustration, the lack of energy for things -- it's all cyclical, really. Not every show can float your boat, I suppose. I mean, the law of averages can't be helped some times. But from reading your journals and your profile you seem to be really into what you do and have had good successes in the past. If you need to make changes in your career, I say go for it ! Chase down that next creative project that feeds your soul!

Clay Aiken is the Anti-christ...

The Opera Run is finally over...The tear down took almost 8 hours. And even with the Touring guy from the Minnesota Opera there it was a bitch. I never thought I could be tired of The QET. But I've worked allmost every show in there this past month and I can't wait to get back to the Stanley and up...

All-Saints Day....

I'm looking forward now...not back.

Back where their is revenge and loss. Why? because that anger and regret really is of just one big material thing. A workplace full of mostly wonderful memories. A theatre which will at the turn of this year be turned into just another Meat market bar on granville street for rich people visiting from the burbs. We set...

The most beautiful moment of 2005....

I'm on the opera. And the Stagemanagement are babes....

One in particular is very fetching ( The Intern...) Rachelle. barely 20 but she has that girly "something" about her that makes me look too much and think too much. She's an ex ballet dancer who does foot exersizes in the wings. Almost habitually as any ballet dancer does. Preparing...

missing shows my ass, you know damn well we still work when we're sick! Then the whole damn crew gets sick! It's like, teamwork or something!
squishylizards:
Only a little more heart, sadly. There are a couple of fantastic songs, but the plot is so incredibly shallow and un-heartwrenching. You'd feel happy for the little orphan getting her break, if there were any build up. 10 minutes into the show she becomes rich little orphan annie. At least she's got a killer voice.

Judas Priest.....

A quick setup and strike on a day off between Opera shows. ( I made show call on the opera for the first time since 1997. God, it's so freaking easy. The old-old boy's live in the lap of luxury on the VOA calls. One show every other day witch turns out to be almost an 8 hour day. Due to the strikeback...

Interesting entry, i have never been much good at initiating relationships whilst drunk, or even at more than a couple of drinks.- and when i have- they were not great judgement calls.

as we get older i think maybe we are even less likely to be any good at it when drunk.

Maybe when us blokes get drunk we become boorish and testosrazone fuelled, talk about work too much.

Maybe after a few dates can we become drunk with a girl and be attractive- the opposite of being 16 and drunk maybe?

Never been much good at the dating thing full stop, I seem not to make a good first impression- in a potential boyfriend way, unless im working, when people see me work i seem to make a quite good impression, i have no idea why this is. but im usually to crap to follow that up properly.

im lucky at the moment, im not seeking dates or sex. Think it would take a woman to - pick my front door lock, get in to my bed naked before id be pushed to consider it.

Hope you find the woman of your desires- she maybe arty on the inside not the outside (e.g. clothes haircut) though?!
donut3000:
oh ive found being too nice/polite doesn't help! its my nature to be polite - but that only seems to impress or attract grannies. maybe work on your rough edges- make them rougher

It ain't over til the fat lady sings....

So, I've been added to the opera Show crew. Almost like clockwork. I knew i was missing out on show calls last year so i sticked it out and what do you know I'm here again in the big house. First time since 97. Back when the economy was good and we were in almost every venue....

well good job to ya.
i didn't start getting the nod from the old boys until i started working in the opera shop. now it's weird, they ask my advice on things (mostly carpentry stuff) witch is cool, so i take all the opera load ins now 'cause i can be acting crew chief without the nice pay but i like responsibility.
i don't know if it's so true for y'all up there in canada but here in minneapolis all the old boys are getting a little over weight so i affectionately refer to them as the big bellies.
