When people online find out I’m from Houston, the reaction is usually pretty predictable. "Oh, man, Houston seems so cool! The food scene is insane, the car culture is huge, and everything is bigger out there."
They picture the glittering skyline, the sprawling highways, and the cultural boom. And look, they aren’t entirely wrong. Houston is a massive, diverse powerhouse. But the Houston they see...

My mind goes to one of the greatest lyrics I've ever heard, mate. "Down in the part of town where when you hit a red light, you don't stop". -Bruce Springsteen, Johnny 99. Still though, seriously, it's a testament to the type of man you are and how resilient you are. My admiration's gone up for you tenfold.
cheekywhisper:
@leighgabriel Appreciate the love, man. That Springsteen line is a classic and hits the nail on the head. Living out there definitely builds a different kind of armor, but I'm glad it shows through in the writing.
Houston is famous for constant traffic and winding bayous. But lately, those waterways have been making news for a much darker reason. Bodies are being pulled from the water at an alarming rate, and the official explanations just aren't adding up.
If you don't live in Texas, you might not have heard about this. Local authorities insist there is nothing to connect these cases and...

@chelsiegh Exactly!  That's what makes the 'accidental slipping' excuse fall flat. When you look at the physical layout of these public walkways and the sheer volume of people who use them safely every day, a sudden spike like this doesn't happen by chance. Someone is using these dark, unmonitored drop zones to their advantage.

@lucki  I'm having a great day, thanks for asking! 😊 Hope the rest of your day stays awesome too!

Since The Antidote only taught me how to aggressively overthink a casual gesture from my neighbor, I figured I should switch to something completely different. I picked up The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck by Mark Manson .I thought a book explicitly about not caring would finally fix my brain. I was wrong. I spent the entire afternoon reading it, and now I'm...

I read this book a while back, before I started any meditation or real directed self reflection. It was helpful in pushing me in the direction I am moving now. The conversation between you and @jozsef is something that took me a long time to get to personally. I've always had a problem with getting frustrated and just giving up on something because I'm not perfect soon enough. I'm sure I have missed out on many good hobbies and fulfilling activities due to this mindset. I'm much better than I used to be, and so much of it comes down to just realizing it anytime I realized I'm getting angry when frustrated, and then just reminding myself that it's okay to be frustrated, but being angry about not learning fast enough isn't useful. Thanks for the post and conversation.
cheekywhisper:
@elixic Thank you so much for sharing that, Elixic! It takes a lot of self-awareness to recognize that frustration and gently redirect it. Realizing that it's okay to be frustrated—and that speed doesn't dictate your worth—is such a massive breakthrough. So glad this conversation resonated with you

Spark of the Cozy Gamer:

A bolt of yellow lightning strikes the dark,
A sudden flash, a bright and blinding spark,
With crimson cheeks that glow with inner light,
She turns the darkest shadows into night.
A faithful friend who stands through thick and thin,
Refusing her Pokéball from deep within,
She runs beside her trainer, proud and bold,
With thunderbolts and stories to be...

Gold and Candy Paint:

The chrome is a mirror reflecting the street,
Where the click of hydraulics and heavy bass meet.
Three-wheeling proud on a warm summer night,
Bathed in the glow of the neon red light.
Gold on the bumper, gold on the grill,
Dressed up so clean that the city stands still.
Candy paint shining, a metallic bright gleam,
Floating down asphalt like...

We talk a lot about ADHD and Autism online, but until you live inside a brain that completely locks onto something, it’s hard to explain just how intense a hyperfixation loop really is.When my neurodivergent brain decides something is the center of the universe, it doesn't just casually think about it. It completely hyper-focuses. Everything else fades into the background. The urge to build, fix,...

Yeah I got ASD and it can be hard at times surrounding with ppl who don’t get it or care. Luckily that hasn’t happened in a while to me personally but I know it does happen to others on the spectrum. Yeah it’s always best to go on your own pace. Take breaks if you need it, take your time and do what is comfortable to you. Real people understand you, hope you got people like that in your life. 👍🏻
cheekywhisper:
@kungfury Thank you so much for this reminder, man! It really is all about finding and honoring your own pace. I’m glad you’ve found that perspective, and I really appreciate you sharing your experience and the kind words here. 👊🏻
I am officially issuing a public warning that my text shorthand translation engine has a localized glitch.
For the longest time, whenever I saw people typing lowercase shortcuts online like "sm," my literal pattern-recognition brain didn't register "so much." Instead, it instantly mapped it out as "such me." I would read sentences like "thank you sm" and think, Wow, the internet is getting incredibly deep...

Hey everyone,
I stumbled across this meme today and just had to share it here because the accuracy is too real.
For anyone who doesn’t live in the Lone Star State, let me paint a picture for you: driving here is an extreme sport where the orange traffic cone is officially the state flower. It feels like the second a highway project finishes, they immediately...

I just seen this meme on my FB. Reminds me of when I was driving through Tennessee years ago. Cones everywhere and no work really getting done
cheekywhisper:
@tali79  Haha, it sounds like Tennessee and Texas share the exact same state flower: the orange traffic cone! 🚧😂
