There is an unwritten law in the HVAC trade that states no matter how thoroughly you check your tool bag before climbing up a ladder, you will always be exactly one specific tool short of finishing the job.
You get yourself all the way up into a tight space, squeeze past the framework, crawl over the joists, and get right in front of the unit. You trace the wiring, find the glitch, and reach down into your bag.
Nothing. The exact size socket or meter you need is sitting right on the console of the van downstairs.
So begins the service van marathon. You climb back down, walk across the property, grab the tool, scramble back up, and get back into position. Two minutes later, you realize you also need a different set of zip ties or a wire stripper you left on the workshop bench. You can easily clock five miles of high-intensity cardio before lunch just walking back and forth to your truck.
Forget going to a commercial gym after a long shift. If you want a real workout, just try fixing a broken compressor on a tight schedule while your service van acts like an elusive treasure chest parked three blocks away.
