Grats, Wil!

2nd is nothing to shake a stick at unless it's a WTA or 5-6 people, or a dollar game I suppose.

I have yet to be in a game with more than 10 people and make it to the point where I am heads up. I always, ALWAYS, find myself beaten by ridiculous crap when I have pocket Queens or Kings or some such. I suppose i should play to hold onto my chips by 5th place or so because at that point, any hand that puts me in favor gets beaten by 3 6 d catching a flush after throwing it all-in before the flop or something idiotic like that.

You're obviously doing well, frustrating as it may be sometimes. Keep it up!

And now, my Phil Hellmuth imitation:

I'm a tournament poker player. Sure, a lot of people I respect in the poker blogger world say that tourneys are -EV, but for the last month, I've doubled my bankroll just playing low-stakes (5.50 and 10+1) SNGs. I play good, solid tournament strategy, and I've learned to take advantage of people who are trying to protect their stacks,...

I had the same problem with $0.25-$0.50 ring games - it's barely a step above play money for some people and they'll call anything all the way to the river.

I just started playing $0.50-$1 ring games and there's a noticeable difference. For a start, it's possible to find tables where less than 50% of the 10 players there are seeing the flop!

. . . and I took down first place in a 10 +1 late last night for $45, which wipes out all my losses, and leaves me stuck only $5 on the month.

That picture looks like less of a Sigh-H to me and more of a "hey everybody this is what it was like when I flew in the plane; 'woosh', 'neeeerowwww', 'screech'. They gave condi little pilot wings but I got penuts and a flight suit!"

If you don't read my personal blog, you may not know that I write a weekly column for The Onion AV Club, called The Games of our Lives. It's a great gig: I get paid to play and write about classic video games, and I get a free subscription to The Onion. smile

This means that I get to cut out things like this,...

Pope Promotes Abstinence to Fight AIDS

Pope Benedict XVI urged African bishops Friday to keep up their fight against
AIDS, reiterating church teaching that abstinence is the only "fail-safe" way to prevent the spread of the virus.

"It is of great concern that the fabric of African life, its very source of hope and stability, is threatened by divorce, abortion, prostitution, human trafficking and a...

When I found out that my friend Danica McKellar had a chance to be featured in Stuff, I put out a call to Fark the vote on WWdN. It looks like it paid off, because she's got a very hot shoot in the July issue. (Picture links are sketchy. Sorry)

Go Danica!

Via Waxy.org (who hilariously says "Sounds like somebody's got a case of the Mondays!"), I discovered this hilarious blog, written by one Alex Blagg.

The post that caught Waxy (and my) attention is titled 5 Movies I Wish People Would Stop Quoting. I agree with them all, but my personal favorite is

1. "Swingers" -- It takes a special kind of douchebag...

I placed third for 48 bucks in a 10+1 SNG Saturday took second in a 5+.50 SNG Sunday afternoon for 13 bucks. . . and then I got Rivered in another 10+1 SNG right on the bubble Sunday night:

I'm short-stacked (874) in the SB with 5 left in a 'Stars SNG.
