Hi SGland!
@missy and @rambo have been giving us some blog assignments, and I haven't done them in favor of being a nerdy child and talking about my cosplay and comic con's coming up, but there is a first time for everything, so here's mine.
10 Random things about Sid!
1.) When I was in high school I did motocross racing. This caused a bunch of broken things and injuries, but I still loved it. My senior year, I broke my collarbone taking a jump. I tried to hide it since my mother was so against me riding, but I was in too much pain, and finally told her I don't know how it happened. She still thinks to this day that my collarbone broke from picking up and carrying my heavy backpack. I think she even complained to the school that I had too much homework or something (duh, I was in honors classes. [I used to be smart person.]). Sadly, as I was recovering from my collarbone, some dickwad broke into my garage and stole my bike. My parents thinking they were doing something awesome, took the insurance check and bought me a car. I'm still bitter about it. :P
2.) A lot of people already know because I talk openly about it, but I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. It's a skeletal/connective tissue disease (genetic). It causes my joints to be unstable and dislocate a lot, my skin to be delicate (and pale so my veins show), scar easy, be in quite a bit of pain, and there's other more unsavory/life-threatening problems (but I don't really think about those since they're very rare, and there's no point in worrying too much about them). I used to feel sorry for myself for having it, but I'm determined to "beat" this. At least as much as someone can beat an incurable, progressive illness. I'm determined to keep myself from having to use a wheelchair as long as I can. I have a cane that I do use sometimes, but I've actually strengthened my joints enough to not need it as much, and I'm now on a regime of medications that are helping me for the most part, so I am beating it for now, and am proud of myself.
3.) I hate eggs. Eggs are my food nemesis. Everything about them: the smell, the texture, the taste, and the jiggle. Just thinking about them makes me gag. I don't know when they started making me sick or why, but I just can't. If they're in food or in baked goods, that's fine, but just no. No eggs.
4.) I'm deathly terrified of clowns, bees, and scorpions. Clowns are the worst, and I live right by a venue that hosts the circus every year on my birthday. Like I can see clowns from my window that whole weekend. I pretty much just close the curtains the entire week it's in town.
5.) My only real talent is cooking. I love to cook, and I'm somehow good at it. Like really good. I made it to LA on season 2 of Masterchef and was on 3 episodes (but actually filmed for like a month). Even though it turned out to be pretty much scripted and fake since they picked the people moving forward prior to any cooking being done, and made up drama, etc, and then they edited in fake commentary to what Gordon Ramsay actually told me about my food to a negative comment in the final product, it was still fun. The suckiest part is that they locked us in a hotel room in a cheap hotel with a random person, and my roommate sucked. We weren't allowed to leave, and to enforce that, they took our keycards away. I probably would never do another reality show again though.
6.) I take selfies in the randomest of places, and I'm not embarrassed by it at all. Although, I refuse to do the public bathroom selfie. For some reason, I think it's too tacky, and I always get stuck behind the group of bitches doing that in the mirror at the bathroom in the bar. All I want to do is wash my hands, ladies, GTFO!
7.) Most of my wardrobe these days consists of various cosplay-ish shirts and dresses. Mostly Star Wars and Marvel characters. Then I also have a bunch of other nerdy shirts. I'm always on the look out for more.
8.) I grew up incredibly ashamed of myself; who I was, how I looked. I was a loner with terrible social anxiety (which I still have but I'm medicated for it now). The ugly girl in school who was short and one of those nerdy smart kids, everyone made fun of for it. It took moving away across the country and away from every judgmental person who put me down my whole life to realize I'm so much better than all that. I am absolutely proud of who I am and what I've become. Every time I go back to where I grew up, I see that all the idiots who made me feel terrible are still the same losers they were back then, except fatter and balder now, so they can all hate me for a different reason now, and I'm okay with that.
9.) If I could change one thing about my physical appearance though, it'd be my height. I'm just slightly over 5 feet tall, and everyone ever always has to comment on how small I am. I can't control how tall I am, so people really need to stop saying shit and immature adults need to stop making fun of it because it's not like I can say, "Oh, I'm sorry I'm short and you need to make jokes about it! I'll grow when I get home tonight!" It's just so insanely petty and annoying. So if you're one of those a-holes that find it hilarious to ask someone if they qualify as a "midget", you definitely qualify as a complete douchebag.
10.) If I could do anything with my life without limitations, I'd want to be a forensic archaeologist. I am fascinated by skeletons and mummified bodies. When I was in Europe, I went to catacombs everywhere I could and ossuaries (rooms constructed of human bones) as well. I entertain the thought of buying a human skull at some point to display in my house, but I think I may end up being too creeped out to own someone else's head. But yes, I love forensics and archaeology. I took so many arch. classes in high school and college, it should have been my major, and now I wish it was.
So one more thing before I close this blog:
I'll be at the Cannabis Cup in Denver next weekend. If you're coming too, let me know, and I'll do what I can to say hello! :)
