New Order....
When your part of a union there's an order.... The old, old school boys where there before you and will always be old til they're gone. And then, it's your turn to be the old, old school boys.

Turandot rehearsal strike....
A geogous morning. Sun streaming through the high picture windows of an almost abandoned boat manufacturing wharehouse. Down near the docks of one of Canada's busiest ports. Yeah, we run off platters. Pretty much only one theatre in the city that doesn't, and it's a single screen. Last of its kind. And yes, the other cutter has been dealt with. Thanks for the support.

I feel ya man. Tonight we wrapped up Carmen. What a fucking set. What an amazing fucking set. Carps are still at worrk while I've been at the bar for 2 hours, and they will be at it all night. I think our set belonged to the utah opera company, but the az op, which i work for, has made some fucking phenomenal ones as well.
I love my swanky ass union opera electrician job. So very much.

The Killer's was a complete pain. I had to bail from setting up the show due to some terrible indigestion that made me feel that day like I had barbed wire wrapped around my intestines. It was all due to the fact that for the first time in years I had a few days off around Thanksgiving. ( Canadian thanksgiving being last sunday...

i see your getting into commentaries, they can be great- if the people doing the commentaries have good stories to tell i like them sometimes to drift off to sleep to as you don't always have to keep your eyes open.

Veronica....
Her name is Veronica. Tall, with a dark black curly mane of hair. Looks kind of like Jessica Harper in the movie Suspiria. She's a teacher. Likes foreign films. wants to work in the film industry again. Used to work at the Vogue theatre where I know her from but every time I see her I think her name is Jackie ( Some other...

I got caught slightly drunk ( I was eating at the time so I refuse to really say i was completely hosed...)

You like, or are like half and half?
Basically, outside of the physical stuff that turns me on. I just want a woman to be tthree things. Honest, interesting and interested in me to a certain extent. We all have looks we like. Body types that get us hot. Deal breakers etc. ( Like alot of guys I'm into slim, petite, women with nice round bums... Big breasts I don't see as huge deal but they're nice.) I don't like it when a woman's a smoker or very overwieght. And if she cheats...I'm gone.
On the madonna/whore subject. I think you and I are in the same boat. We like dichotomy. We're were sort of dual personalities. I'm a gemini, and I like to be interested in some one long term and I want to know both sides to a person. Good and bad. Introverted and extroverted. Because I tend to be introverted I find extroverted woman to be an attraction for me. And many women when they are extroverted use all their god given talents and take them a bit extreme. Tattoo's, piercings and the like are examples.
Problem is many of those types of women ( or people if I'm being honest.) can act out in bizzare and even damaging ways. Cheating, Cutting, Lieing, drug use etc.
And that's many of the reasons I'm single. When I meet a nice girl she tends not to think much of my job and it's anti-normal hours. Plus, getting together is kind of hard and if she wants to see a show. She more than likely has to see it alone because I'm working it or I'm busy working another show.

NO spots because they're too good for spotlights. The rig is 80% all movers and the one truss that's conventionals can be focused by a lift. i'm at the middle of the middle so i almost get the good calls just a few people away from spot calls and the like but now i took a full time shop job at the minnesota opera so i don't have any time to take the big money calls when they come my way, but hey it's the easy way up the list. i will always get my hours so in a few years i'll be able to quit the opera and take what i want but for now i have to wait for the old dogs to retire or die off.javascript:insertSmilie('

On a list of just under 300 member's I'm currently 144. Just past the middle. On Availiblity I tend to hover at 80 - 90 That's the theatre local.
On the film local we have about 10,000 members and I'm sister local with them and smwhere very near the bottom.

Yes that was a bit long, I got a bit carried away!
The Bipolar can be bad- but we all have problems of some sort or another and mine is fairly well treated. I thinks its real danger is when you don't know you have it or its not treated or the treatment isn't working. It does have its advantages sometimes - like thinking well outside the box.
The best atmosphere between cast and crew I've found is at the Edinburgh festival, in small venues 50-180 seats. the lighting/sound boards are in the auditorium. Everyone is running about- the last show is leaving - your refocussing for the next show, the cast are helping to set there stage, if the cast are down then you help cheer them up. a cross between techie, operator, psychiatrist and stage manager- so a lot of lines are crossed already.

I want a SMART CAR!!!! I wonder if they are dangerous.......to be mowed down by lingering SUVs.
I totally think about how something came to be and what the pitch was like. Especially with terrible movies. "So, there's this troubled teenager...and....this weird guy in a bunny suit tells him to do things...and there's time travel....and of course... a love story."

I hear that smart cars are pretty safe. Build as they are like an egg shaped roll cage. But, I wouldn't think to use them on freeways unless it's bumper to bumper.
The biggest danger is, if they get hit, to pedistrians around them.

Why can't I talk to goth girls.....I have pallid skin, beached out hair. ( most of the time...) I wear black all the time.... Hell, I look like an Ingmar Bergman hero when I'm at my best. What's my problem? (fear, it's all fear, rejection et all....)
I'm terrible with girls names. I can't remember them to save my life....

Thanx! 33 doesn't seem that bad now. think i might try the Yoga a washboard stomach would be a interesting first for me!
Im crap with names too, even have a problem with friends and relatives, but an old trick is to say the name 3 times in conversation with people as you meet them. sometimes this really works well at burning that name into your head, you have to actually say it- not think the name.
i guess weather it works or not depends on the amount of beers you've had!

yeah im still eating like a 20 year old! strange you should mention balance, mines been a bit off this year- i put it down to blood pressure and declining fitness.
So you work in theatre, worked a fair bit in that myself, never full time though. dance is one of the more fun things to light for and opp.
In recent years i have done a few stints at the Edinburgh festival- a challenging experience!

I'm thinking of switching away from beer to hard liquor for the winter as my poison of choice. It's got less calories per serving. It tends to be on special on the nights I go out ( weekdays and sundays.)
And it seems to be one of the factors that's attributed to Iggy Pops leaness over time. And that looks a great look for us...

Yeah, it's probably all the heroin use of days gone past and stomach crunches. And make Iggy look so hyper skinny.
I just fear bloating up over the next few years which is why I've always avoided the board Op gig for long periods. ( Board gut )
Wow, a woman who thinks Stagehands are cool...Where did you meet this fantasy come true?

Broken collarbone, oowch- sound painfull, how did that happen?
[Edited on Oct 19, 2005 7:52PM]
What did you make of fainting?
I've only done it once with a box cutter knife in my hand during some set construction, some idiot tried to trim some wood while i was carrying it, looked at this knife in my hand for about 5mins while he tried to sort some clean cloth out, remember thinking is that bone its hit? every thing went blurry and i wend down!
Fainting was a real pleasurable experience! for me any way!
