The Misfits....
The Killer's was a complete pain. I had to bail from setting up the show due to some terrible indigestion that made me feel that day like I had barbed wire wrapped around my intestines. It was all due to the fact that for the first time in years I had a few days off around Thanksgiving. ( Canadian thanksgiving being last sunday - Why we even have thanksgiving here in Canada still perplexes me to this day. And I think many Canadian's feel the same as well.) And I kind of partied a bit too much and ate far too much. Of course I got out of the strike call, and by that time my stomach was in much better shape but I needed the rest and the chance to get caught up on stupid things like laundry.
Note to self: Turkey and Irish whisky do not mix well with icecream -especially since I'm lactous intollerant.
Also, I went home and watched old movies supplied by friends that I said I'd watch but have never gotten around to. One of which was The Misfits. Which also came with a special section where there was commentary. I'm really getting into watching old movies with commentary. Silent movies are fantastic with someone talking in the background about how they guerilla shot this scene or faked that scene. And what that particularly shining actress really was like or sounded like.
But the commentary on the Misfits is Eli Wallich, who is one of the actors and was there. Spoke with and got drunk with Clark Gable and Marylin Monroe. Gambled all night with John Houston and then shot his scenes the very next day. All the while, Montgomery Cliff sat in the background. And then sauntered on to the set, did it all in one take. And then went back to his hotel room to drink himself into a stupor.
But, the most telling thing that struck me was listening to how they all waited and waited for hours for Marylin to show up for her scenes ( While, all the while she was back in the hotel room in Reno fighting with Arthur Miller, about her affair with Eves Montage, While he was rewritng the scenes of The Misfits - Which is pretty much a love letter to Marylin from him.) And, when she finally did show up. Everyone on the set, John Houston on down, didn't say a word about her continuous late calls.
And I thought I was hopelessly in love, all those years ago.

donut3000:
i see your getting into commentaries, they can be great- if the people doing the commentaries have good stories to tell i like them sometimes to drift off to sleep to as you don't always have to keep your eyes open.
