today was really disorienting.

i got up at 6am (after about 3 hours sleep), caught a plane back to dallas, got out of the airport here around noon, went to eat lunch, went home and dropped off my stuff, went to the office, ran through email and SG, ran some errands, almost fell asleep at the wheel on the freeway, back to the studio to...

Good to finally meet you in person last night. Sounds like you had a pretty full day. I think they must have let all the college kids go on break, maybe that explains why it was so packed.

back in dallas. not terribly enthusiastic about this matter. jab, you better be at the MR tonight or my whole day will be blown.
jab:
we certainly can't have that. i could probably use a real dinner while i'm at it.

4am. it's the end of the last night of the night owl chug a lug series. didn't post about last night, so you're getting what i can remember of the last 40 hours or so.

last night, dollface and i rocked a party in her neighborhood. artist type named derek erdman. some neat pieces this dude has. http://www.derekerdman.com/
then we went to the bar above...

Thanks for the link to that site, there is some really cool shit on there. The McGinty .mp3s are hillarious.

dollface and i went to some bar last night in wicker park, don't even remember the name of it. got treated like regulars: bartendress was chatting us up, cracking on the other customers, poured us a shot on the house (and had one herself), etc. weird. but cool.

that was all preceded by chinese food at the orange garden (neat-looking deco decor outside) and "the...

like i said, you need to go back there and make it right. they'll appreciate that you even remembered.

weird, someone at some point gave me a long review of that movie and i can't remember a word of what they said about it. even weirder, i also mentioned someone running like a girl in my journal today. i'll have to drink up to that tonight.

who else? the one and only chanimal. the most 10 yeard old 25 year old ever.

ok, night time. went to the gingerman tavern about 10p with a good friend and one of his friends that i've met before, had several drinks, walked across the street to a hot dog stand (open til 5), had an italian sausage and a hot dog, walked home.

gingerman review: not bad at all. lots of cool tunes in the air, bad brains, X, smiths,...

My ex lived on dover and sunnyside, you probably live in the same goddamn apartment! pretty nice too...

Do you go to Rayan's?
kopper:
last time i was in chicago that record store up by wrigley was called "the clubhouse". they had some not too bad stuff. i like reckless myself, over on broadway i think.
have you checked out the fireside bowl yet?

nothing like waiting on the train platform with that nice winter breeze.

last night for dinner: jerk chicken and plantains from the jamaican joint around the corner from the apartment. i do love this city.

after: measured around the apartment trying to figure out how i'm going to fit my furniture into the apt. going to be difficult.

after that: drank whiskey with dollface at L&L tavern on clark and belmont. talk of cookouts and fish fries....

god bless iggy. despite the asheton's claims of rich boy, lil jimmy osterberg is still the coolest.

jerk chicken is one of the best food names ever. i can't think of the name of that place south of the bridge from taylor in the supposed "rough side" of town. not far enough in maybe. they rip the jerk chicken. it does seems like all the gingermans are in goofy neighborhoods. austin, houston and here are 3 for 3.

the latest seems to be that the carnage begins early next week. i can't remember if i mentioned a timeline when i talked to you today.

got to chicago 2 hours late thanks to snow, but dollface and i braved the weather. nothing was to deter us from monday night at the rock & bowl. then, on to the golden nugget pancake house, since i hadn't eaten anything since around noon yesterday, to fill up on greasy diner food. home around 3.30a i think? up at 8a to move the car...

it's gonna be a cold one, too--supposed to snow up to 4 inches in the next 36 hours.

i am curious how much the liquor consumption increases around these part in the winter months.....

Confederacy of Dunces rocks--I need to remember to pepper my conversations with reference to my "pyloric valve" the mere name of which I find hysterical. Also, a good ending--upbeat without beeing cheesy. On the other hand, I also found this book rather sad after I found out that John Kennedy O'Toole was an overweight intellectual who lived with his mother and killed himself. It kinda took a bit of the funny out of Ignatius to think he was a vicioius self-parody of the author--for whom the real ending wasn't being rescued and leaving New Orleans, but rather self-loathing and suicide.

On that upbeat note... I absolutely recommend The Club Dumas, esp. if you're a Dumas fan. It's SO much better than that crappy movie they made out of it--in "The Ninth Gate" they took out the entire Dumas subplot. One of my favorite parts of the book is a sex scene told mostly through Battle of Waterloo metaphors.

today: thanksgiving today with my stepfather, his 2 sons with their wives and all those kids, my sister and her husband and their daughter, and my aunt (mom's sis), uncle, & cousin from san antonio came up, and a few friends of the family. we got somewhat liquored up: 2 bottles of vodka, a bottle of bushmills, some kind of scotch that isn't even made...

tonight i witnessed the funniest thing i've ever seen at the meridian room, and that's saying something. jab was telling me this story about when he was a little kid, and in the middle of the night his mom came downstairs and cold busted him eating a stick of butter out of the fridge. at this point in the story, kingsimon walks up and...

i used to love going to hollywood five and dime just to check out the old cat shine up his ride. i used to fantasize about being an old lady and having a fella like that to bring me my whisky. isn't he in a band still? the flaming hellcats or something like that.

good times yesterday. spent most of the day at a friend's place, cooking and eating, then hit the MR and hung out with more friends.

thanksgiving. what am i thankful for? my friends. i've had a rough couple of years, and these are the people that kept me on my feet. no way i'd have pulled through without my friends. i appreciated it then, and...

turkey day. a friend came through with a backup plan last night -- he's holding a potluck style thanksgiving dinner for people that can't or don't want to be with famliy today, so i'm headed to the store to buy some sweet potatoes, and then i'm rocking that party.

and i'll end up at the meridian room at some point tonight, i'm sure. i hear...
