ok, night time. went to the gingerman tavern about 10p with a good friend and one of his friends that i've met before, had several drinks, walked across the street to a hot dog stand (open til 5), had an italian sausage and a hot dog, walked home.
gingerman review: not bad at all. lots of cool tunes in the air, bad brains, X, smiths, etc. decent selection of liquor and beer from what i could tell. mixed crowd, lots of skinhead-lookin' types (bomber jackets and snap-front caps, you know), couple of kinda punk-lookin cats, couple of kinda yuppie lookin cats. overall, not a bad experience, but it was a little crowded. i imagine that it's hell on weekends, cuz this was a wednesday.
tomorrow: no real agenda, again. still walking around the apartment a lot trying to figure out how my furniture is going to fit. cookout/fish fry saturday.
----------------------------------
easily walkable stuff in the neighborhood:
3 subway sammich shops
3 dry cleaners
2 liquor stores
2 dunkin donuts
2 chinese restaurants
2 banks
jamaican restaurant
tacqueria
lebanese / middle eastern restaurant
generic chicago eatery (everything from pizza to burgers to gyros, polish sausages, italian beefs, barbecue, you name it, they got it; but my favorite is the polish)
the green mill (jazz bar, al capone's old north side speakeasy, been open almost 100 years)
and of course, the red line train wilson stop
walkable stuff that's a bit further:
wrigley field
the gingerman
fuel
the metro
that record store that's a couple doors down from the metro, the name of which i have forgotten
the lakeview lounge (not actually in lakeview; it's on the north edge of uptown/south edge of edgewater)
tons of other lakeview bars, most of which i'll never darken the doorways of
and god knows what else.
kick ass.

My ex lived on dover and sunnyside, you probably live in the same goddamn apartment! pretty nice too...
Do you go to Rayan's?
have you checked out the fireside bowl yet?
nothing like waiting on the train platform with that nice winter breeze.
