It freaks me out when they test the emergency sirens near where I live. It's so long in between me noticing them that every time I have to go look it up and see that they test them the first Friday of every month at noon.

Now the terrorists know when to strike near my house!

I can't believe I'm taking the train down to LA to see Star Wars with RidleyGriffyn. Between tomorrow and Thursday, I will spend about 23 hours on trains and busses.

At least I already know that the movie is good, but it's mainly about seeing it with some friends who are really excited about it.

I was going through stuff at my dad's house about a week ago, looking for hazardous chemicals to take to a drop-off. I ran across some ant poison, and being curious, I looked to see what the active ingredient was. It was arsenic trioxide. That's the same chemical that my dad was taking as a chemotherapy agent! This seems to tell me that the way...

Gosh, yuck. My mom works in the OR at our hospital but they have a cancer treatment center and it can get pretty bad. ♥

I knew that Nina Hartley, one of the biggest stars of classic porn, kept an address in Berkeley. She might not live here primarily, but she grew up here and runs her fan club out of here.

I didn't realize that another big star of the 70s/80s, Juliet Anderson, calls Berkeley home. Without knowing it, I walked by her apartment the other day.

I did try a beignet, but it didn't really do much for me. Not enough crawfish, maybe? wink I can't wait to go back to New Orleans.

Yup it was in San Leandro frown

Thanks, everyone, for all your kind words.

I'm actually doing OK now. Sure, I'm sad. I accept my dad's death, but it's hard to wrap your head around the fact that someone's not here any more.

I'll have more upbeat updates from here out, but I'm not sure what to write about...

I liked Oldboy, but I thought it was a little overrated. It's a great movie, a great genre piece, really tragic and dramatic, but it's also completely over the top in a way a lot of people are going to find inaccessable. What'd you think?

And thanks for the bday wishes. smile

It's over.

My dad passed away this afternoon. Although there were some mildly grotesque moments, I think it went perfectly otherwise. My mom, my brother, and I were right by his side. He was in no pain.

It helped a lot talking with my therapist the other day. Well, it should; that's what you pay them for, right? Anyway, the biggest thing was that she...

Oh, and beyond your helpful comment, I am sorry that your father passed, but I think there's beauty in having no pain at the end of a life. Its about the best one can ask for in departure from this space.
lucyfur:
I'm sorry for the loss of your father. I understand (as much as a complete stranger can) a little of what you're going through.

In response to your question in my journal, I actually attended the Florida College of Natural Health, although I hear that NHI is a reasonably good school. I'm right down the street from them too, and was thinking about looking into their faculty requirements.

Please take good care of yourself.

It gets harder and it gets easier.

My dad is more coherent now than he was all of last week. I think it's probably sinking in for him that he's nearing the end, at least because of the number of visitors he's getting. The plan was to transfer him out of intensive care today because his vitals have stabilized. He's at the point where he...

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. It's wonderful that you were able to rebuild your relationship!

Thanks for the advice about my dad, it was very helpful. My problems seem minor after reading your entry though, and you and your dad will be in my thoughts. Take care.

I really hate writing bummer journal entries, but sometimes you have to, right?

My dad's about to die.

For those just tuning in, he has a rare bone marrow disease called myelodysplastic syndrome. It's the same disease that Carl Sagan had. It has left him neutropenic, meaning that he's low in red and white blood cells. He's needed blood transfusions every two weeks to stay...

I have the weirdest songs running through my head today.

Mr. Roboto by Styx
the theme from Arthur, the kids TV show
Non-Violent Tae Kwon do Troopers from Off the Charts

I want to know that last one.

Well, that was a first! Yesterday, a big handsome black man rubbed oil on my ass!

context: My girlfriend and I went out for inexpensive massages at the National Holistic Institute Student Massage Clinic.

They're a front for the Homosexual Coalition, you know. It's a scheme to get impressionable young people with little money and sore backs to question their sexuality. I'm sorry you had to experience that.

The apartment is up above the pollution, thank god. Street level is awful! I rode a tuk-tuk last week, talk about polution puke

ps. I want a big handsome black man to rub oil on my ass wink
