Back to classes for the first time since catching t3h death so violently over the weekend. There are dangers to missing half a week. To begin with, my game programming project team is not only now focusing on mecha-squirrels, but has decided that our military game needs to include a trip to the shopping mall. For artillery, of course.

Also:
For reasons that are mostly...

I always had a traditional slumber party for those who were single that night. I never cared, but it eased their heartbreak a bit. We'd order pizza and watch a bunch of "love sucks" type movies while drinking insane amounts of alcohol.

That tradition ended a few years ago when everyone got married and started breeding. tongue

What IS this with the repeated plagues?
Seriously. Sick twice in the same month. Not just a little sick. Like, "I think getting out of bed would be a questionable idea" sick. I'm sick of it. On that note: Let's hear it for modern antibiotics. Evidence says there are still some things that garlic doesn't cure.

On the upside, my transition to cable internet is...

Ah, you took the size literally. Both cakes were baked in 9x13 pans, so the peninsulas were not drawn to scale. wink

Quite a few people took the lemon cake, including myself. She made it with Splenda, so it was really good, and I didn't have to worry about ruining my "no desserts" rule.

The job is admin stuff for 3jane.com, SG's webhost. I am now Timmy. Olivia said I should get business cards with that on it as my position title.

First day of classes. Today's line-up doesn't look too rough: Computational Geometry from one of my favorite profs, and computer art for video game purposes, my first class from the art school.

The last few days before classes were spent catching up with all the friends I won't be seeing for the next 4 months, and beating a handful of compuer games I didn't get...

Hrm. I'm a little disappointed with my last year. Not so much progress as I wanted to make. I'd resolve to do better, but I'll plan to do better instead.

In other news:
Wrist sprain is already healed.
One week back today: As sick as I've been in a decade.
Well again now.
Have a week to kill, then back to school.
Not really in...

Exam: Defeated, with an hour to spare despite being 15 minutes late, having my writing hand sprained and bandaged, and the usual sleep and food complaints. (Wah. I don't have time to cook or sleep. Wah.)

Why 15 minutes late?
After 6 different trips to various government offices to renew my license plates, I was not about to stop on the verge of having it...

I'm running to deliver a printout of a final project to a professor. It was due 5 minutes ago. I'm running and then I'm tripping onto the concrete and then you know how it goes from here. Hands on fire, knees the same. Strangers are helping me gather up the papers I've dropped. Plants gather the scattered sheets before the wind can carry them away....

hey man, good luck! i know how much of a stress-fest the finals can be! luckily i only had one to take; the rest were all just final critiques.

i was just going to let you know about that gig in St. Louis. we're playing on jan. 30th at Lemmon's Basement Bar, which i've heard is quite well known. the cover is a whopping $10.00, but that gets you an all day pass and there are numerous bands from all different genres playing. we go on around 7:00-8:00pm. any support you could bring would be appreciated. i don't know how many of our fans are willing to make the trek up to the show me state to cheer us on. hell, i'll buy you a beer just for showing up!

cheers, mate.

PS awesome Decibel Industry merch would also be in order, methinks! wink

It's 6AM. You haven't slept yet. You're debugging a robot. (Debugging hardware is tricky. Even if your hardware is lego. It's trickier to debug lego than it is to debug code. You don't get hair in your code as it runs over the carpet.)

The robot is set up to seek light but also to navigate obstacles. If it is too dark, the robot moves...

Isn't all that Adobe action supposedly reserved for the Powers that Be? Or is that just the party line?

That's an elegant solution. Best of luck. Somehow I have a good feeling about this set getting accepted.

Computer programming is basically the same as writing poetry for a dominatrix. If you get a comma wrong, you get whipped.

I'm convinced the semi-colon makes up for its neglect in common English usage by making you its bitch in most programming languages.

Baudot's Theory of Spiritual Nutrition

It seems that humans have needs beyond the commonly acknowledged ones for food, water, and shelter. At the very least, we are additionally social creatures.

Let us hypothesize that each person needs a certain amount of social contact, quantified as a real number, G, for 'Get out already, it's friday night!' The resevoir of G bleeds away at a rate...

This theroy is incomplete. I agree with the above statement(s). However, humans need alone time as well and social activities can actually drain points when one participates instead of just chilling out alone and playing a DVD or computer game off-line (or knitting, reading, painting, drawing, writing, etc.). We must remember balance in all things.

This would make a FASCINATING thesis for a psychology or sociology paper!

Freeware; I know somebody who made a boot CD of the DOS version, but that version doesn't like my sound.

The Ur-Quan Masters v0.3 is beatable, but not entirely stable. On linux, it can usually go 30-90 minutes without locking up, as long as you aren't doing to many transitions. Mostly, I have to save early and often. This suits me fine in the early game, because I use save & restore to go very "aggressive" on my resource gathering anyway. I rush this so I can get the probe quest done ASAP because I suck at fighting them.

The worst thing about the console version is the speech. I've heard it all twice now, and I think it will be back to silence next time. Now that the third batch from the Precursors is out, I'll probably try the remixed music, though.

I need a spock smilie.

In other news, the shoot with the Hopeful went well. We had three
and a half uninterrupted hours at the site, with very little wased time. Amelia played gopher, fetching sushi on demand. As for the new model, she was on the ball. Got to play with a new camera. That also helped. All in all, we got ~440 pictures...
