once i read "The Fire Next Time" by Baldwin. i really liked it and still consider it to be one of the most well-written things i've read. my favorite part is when he talks about preaching, describing "the power and the glory" of it--it seems that while he himself had some trouble with his faith, he always found himself filled with a tremendous energy when addressing his congregation and would surrender totally to the task at hand, bending his will to deliver sermons worthy of the most impassioned zealot. Given the content of Graham Greene's novel "The Power and the Glory", I'd wager that one work borrowed the phrase from the other.

For a movie with such an arguably simple plot, Kill Bill has been discussed quite alot amongst my friends. Personally I felt as if sometimes QT was trying to make you side with the protagonist and get into a mindframe wherein her actions were completely justified. However, I didn't really feel that enough of the story was presented for me to feel strongly about her motivation one way or the other. I mean, she did really get shat on, but it's not as if she was a peaceful innocent. But I guess in this film the protagonist's motive is not so germane to the story as it is in most movies. I still enjoyed it greatly.
But I have long since fell(uh, fallen i mean) into the trap of wanting to be a badass ninja assassin.

so friday i hauled myself to atlanta to go toi the against me!/ anti-flag show. against me! played really well, but their set was only about a half hour or so long. other than the fact that i got to see my favorite band and they rocked as usual, the show was pretty bad. most of the crowd were really young kids. apparenty the youth...

I had a teacher who was a die hard capitalist. He was the one who invented wine coolers or something when he worked for segrams. He spewed forth no government capitalism like a broken sewer line. But at least the man knew what he was talking about. He wasn't just quoting Rush or Bush. Plenty of people were die hard patriots because their mommies and daddies told them that was what being an American was all about, and then they told me i should be shot for the way I talked about my country. Parents should not teach their children poltics, or if they do they should stand outside oftheir beliefs and let the kids think of what is right, having 12th generation poltics because thats how your family has always been is plain fucking disgusting and unamerican.

i think i have mixed feelings about the new Against Me! album. i've been really disappointed with the over-production on recent albums of several bands who've signed to Fat Wreck... i'd love to see them live, though. hopefully i'll get the chance, but i doubt seriously they'll be through new orleans. it's a band i'd travel to see, though.
