so friday i hauled myself to atlanta to go toi the against me!/ anti-flag show. against me! played really well, but their set was only about a half hour or so long. other than the fact that i got to see my favorite band and they rocked as usual, the show was pretty bad. most of the crowd were really young kids. apparenty the youth of today doesn't understand punk rock. example: i take off to the front as soon as they come on and get stuck in the pit. i almost immediately get knocked over because i have no intrest in tossing 14 year olds around so im just dancing around. when i hit the floor, no one even attempts to help me up. later, a little girl behind me yelled "you fucking suck, bring on anti-flag!" real punk rock, huh? i turned to her and said "fuck you, if you don't like it, leave."
it was so bad that after against me! played suprpkl and i took off. i kinda like anti-flag, but i had no interest in dealing with those assholes for another few hours just to see them. a lot of my friends were downstairs for the count the stars/ copeland show, but i couldn't even go down there without paying another cover. so i ended up leaving at about 9:30.
the whole experience reminded me of that part in SLC punk where he is lambasting the fashion punks. you know, "anarchy in the UK, what the fuck does that have to do with us, we live in Utah!" god forbid anyone bring any originality to the scene. seriously, i bet these kids would have booed the clash for straying from their "punk roots." and they probably feel that fugazi is about the farthest thing from punk there is.
guh. anyway, against me played the electric version of sink florida sink, walking is still honest, pints of guiness, you look like i need a drink, a few others i don't remember, and closed (as usal) with we laugh at danger.
funniest part of the night: someone heckled tom, and he responded with "what can i say, im a huge rock star, i need to spend all my money on blow." i laughed really really hard.
