I need to listen to music. Not having it play (ignored) on MusicMatch while I type and can't concentrate. I need to lie down and put on headphones.

I can't stand to be in front of a computer for one more second today.

Thank you to all who wrote in last Journal. I will be back around more tomorrow.

Conduit for sale!

After work, I'm going back to that record store (from Sunday) to pick up my $40 for trade-ins. I'm thinking about picking up a 99 cent vinyl copy of The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Rick Wakeman; it's not every day you get a chance to buy the World's Most Pretentious Album for a buck.

I've had such a nutty day. Well, I hope you like long Journals:

1) I was woken up at 5 a.m. by one of the worst nightmares I've ever had.

2) I read Life After God until I realized I was just completely spacing out, then went on here and LiveJournal.

3) I went to a record shop. I scared young people. They were talking...

Apnea IS like a little doll. She has that quality like Bjork does, even though they look different from each other. My husband enjoys Cherry's 'bountiful British booty', and who can blame him?

I know a member who would love to be a beautiful woman. You could probably figure this out w/ little effort. I love him and I'm flattered that he wants to be me.

Mark E. Smith needs to get back in the studio, mach schnell, for the Swedes recording. I hope he hasn't lost his touch now that he's dried out.

Re: 5) Glad your regional youngsters are so politically aware.

I think I'll leave old Chuckiebaby up for a lil while longer. He's no Quentin Crisp, but he has written some great books... and Quentin, clever as he was, never thought up Gene Gene The Dancing Machine.

(for anyone who understands 1/2 of the above, I loooove you love )

Anyway, great things are happening.

I got an email from Jillybaby. kiss

I got some good off-the-hook...

I'm very attached to my Quentin Profile pic, but for a day or two I wanna mess around with my new technological pain-in-the-ass, my new scanner, the Canon CanoScan LiDE 30, which I will have to digk around with significantly more to eliminate graininess, figure out the proper sizing to use for pics, etcetc...

...anyway, for now, here's a pic of me at 16. Yeah,...

I don't have much use for casettes. My tape deck is old and dusty and I don't trust it to be gentle with my tapes. If you can't listen to Stephen's show on the air, you can always check it out online. That's the only way I get to hear it since they don't syndicate it here.

Fun news + Question for the Weekend

I opened up Yahoo this morning and there's the big splash headline:
CANDY BAR said to have TOXIC LEAD LEVELS
Now, lead poisoning is a big deal around these parts, since DC's water has been found guilty lately, as has some of Arlington's... so it was with some fear ( eeek eeek ) that I opened the article. Which candy...

Of course there are special effects. But the movie is not about bombarding you with special effects with occasional breaks for a crack at throwing in a love story between spaceship battles. Also, the effects are always in service of the story. Of course, the story does lend itself handily to lots of effects, but the particular effects used are part of Gondry's signature -- nobody else does them like he does. But this movie is such a great collaboration... on top of Gondry's unique talents you've got Kate Winslet, who is a Goddess; Charlie Kaufman who (I'll say it again) is either riding that zeitgeist wave or he IS it; Jim Carey, who wouldn't be my first casting choice for his character by a long shot, does an excellent job -- and he will bring in those audiences, and this one deserves them. Go. Go now. Run, don't walk. Jesus... am I getting paid to rave like this?

I felt really lousy yesterday. Dunno why. I had a lot of muscle pain, no nausea, no apparent fever (I have no thermometer). So I skipper work, and the computer too, as I wasn't sure if typing caused it. It was pain through my head, neck, back. Not normally what you'd associate with carpal tunnel...

I re-watched So I Married an Axe Murderer. It's...

So I Married an Axe Murderer was awesome. I might just watch that tonight, but I'm afraid since I'm back in Long Beach I'll cry during the whole thing since it was filmed in SF and I'm not there anymore.

Yes, my eye is scary and so is Paco. You should see LITHIUM_PICNIC's pics; he has a chinchilla/apnea combination. Apchilla. Jeremy thinks it's scary but I can't stop laughing at it.
sugarfish:
Hey, hope you're feeling better. Gerald V. Casale (Pr. CaSAhLee) is the bass player... I think he is. It's hard to tell what instruments they're playing sometimes, and they do switch it up a bit. Anyway, he refers to himself as Devo's "main strategist," and he's credited with directing a lot of the videos. But then there's this other guy they worked with a lot... a friend of theirs from Kent State U. where they all went to school, and he was in some experimental art classes with them, I think his name is Chuck Statler, also directed or co-directed a lot of their stuff.

And the way they tell the story in their V.O. commentary to the videos certainly paints DEVO out to be total music video pioneers. And I don't think they exaggerate. But...

Something happened to DEVO at some point... don't get me wrong, I love them, I love the idea of them and their idea of themselves, but... at some point they seem to have left the scene, and when they came back, they had a new drummer and... and... and it seems like they completely lost whatever it was that made them DEVO. They became... like... God. I hate to say this. Like bitter has-beens.

Mark Mothersbaugh went on to do a lot of commercial stuff... I'm sure you've seen his name in the Rugrats credits. And Jerry Casale (I've seen it spelled "Jerry") went on to direct other music videos and commercials. But they seemed to be all about spoofing Corporate America and the images they feed us through advertising before SHOUT came out, and then they seemed to become a part of Corporate America. Casale blames their "falling off the radar"' on Enigma, the record label they switched to, but I think what really happened is that they stopped being angry rebels and started trying to be a band.

It's late. I'm rambling. I mean... I been up all night. I'm rambling. Now it's early tomorrow. That's your DEVO editorial for the day, spud.
