So I'm determined to have a crack at reviewing movies, probably in a spectacularly unprofessional way. I'm in the process of watching Transporter 3. I love this kind of film, they're always terrible, the plot makes very little sense, other than an excuse to string together a series of car chases explosions and burly men beating the shit out of redshirts. But they're easy, the kind of film you can enjoy without the feeling that you should take anything from it, or that you need to pay attention to understand it. So on to the film it's self, if you liked the first two, you'll like this, the fight scenes are well choreographed, the car chases are tight, and the generic bad guys are suitably charismatic and mysterious, in a generic way, ok, so that's a little bit of a lie, 'mystery is an excuse for lack of depth, but I still found myself entertained by him, although he should have executed more underlings. Where this film really shines, is as a source of information, for example, I now know that special forces training [the British kind, 'cause we're better at it, obviously] includes learning to ride a BMX to a spectacularly high skill level, and that Audis are the best cars in the world ever, they cannot die, can be driven at a thousand miles an hour, and make beautiful women want to have sex with you. These are indisputable facts, deal with it. The only thing that irritated me was the not-russian girl in it, [buggered if i can remember what country, it was somewhere that has that kind of accent], the pidgoen English she spoke annoyed the hell out of me, it felt like an unnecessary stereotype. But yeah, worth watching, if you want something shiny, and deep as a puddle.
One thing that got me thinking though, is the inevitable police-car-off-a-cliff explosion scene. See, now i know how easily cars explode that spectacularly, and, well, they don't, really. maybe it's something to do with police cars, maybe they're all just built like that, maybe the back seats are made of dynamite, just in case. But see, I was thinking of joining the police for a while, [I know I know, but it's better than being an office monkey or till jockey] [I think]. I'm kinda glad I didn't now, I've long been in the habit of driving too fast on country roads, and whilst I've written off cars [well, one, but that doesn't sound so impressive], none have ever exploded violently, consuming me in a fiery blast. I'm not enamoured with the idea of dieing like that, chasing a Vauxhall Corsa with no tax disk.
In general, I've been thinking about living an alternative lifestyle for the last few days, nothing spectacular, I'd like to be able to open my own geek-store in a few years, basically, I'm concerned with how hard it is to do something that makes you happy in life, rather than just doing something. I've seen people around me fall into jobs they kinda hate 'cause people need to work, and I'm determined to not do that. As it stands though, all I've managed to do is drop out of uni, be unemployed, and kind of homeless. I'm increasingly worried that after all my hope and bravado in leaving university when it wasn't working out for me, all that's going to happen is that I'm going to be in a shit job with a less prospects and a little less debt than if I'd stuck at it. How hard do you have to work to find a place in life where you're happy on your own terms?
Guess this is what I'm trying to find out.
