Alright, so I remembered, after a day made tolerable only because I spent the evening with a friend, that when I started this blog, I had the intention of reviewing films ever now and then. It kinda fell by the wayside, mostly to painting, job hunting and unhappiness, but I've watched rather a lot of flicks recently, so I think I'll give some opinions.

-Crank: I borrowed the dvd off a friend, on a whim, as I rather like retarded Jason Statham films, there's a certain tongue in cheek self knowlage that makes them endearing, rather than crap. Crank is a certain kind of magic, like seeing James Bond kill someone with an exploding pen, you know, rationally that it can't happen, but you're taken back to the first time you saw such an event, except instead of James Bond, it's Jason Statham, and rather than 'kill someone with stationery' it's 'tits and improbable fight scenes'. Don't pretend it means anything, just enjoy it.

-Crank 2: As above, but with absolutely no regard for reality, I think the copy I watched was a bad cam, which gve it an endearingly faux-grindhouse appeal, something I only have knowlage of thanks to Tarantino and Rodriguez.

-Daybreakers: Worth a watch, everyone smokes. Not too much to say really, it was solid, adequate, unremarkable. I'll be downloading it, not buying it when it comes out on dvd.

-Adam: Bit of a more obscure one, a sort of love story about a man with Asperger's. This is one of those touching, intelligent films that I'm never in the mood for, I enjoyed it, and I felt smarter after it was done, plus I got to lord some obscure-film-cred over my friend earlier. Yes. I'm a sad motherfucker.

-Whip It: Drew Barrymore directing a film about roller derby that's really... well, shithot actually. I fucking loved this, Ellen Paige is as awesome as ever. Just fun, in the same way that Juno, and Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist were. I wish my formative years were like that.

-Up: I cried. My burly manly down-to-earth, farm raised friend cried. My laptop cried, there were tears coming from my external hard drive. If you can watch this without being moved, you are a cold cold shell of a pseudohuman who should seek a career as a contract killer or traffic warden. You cunt.

-2 Fast 2 Furious: Yes, I fucking love fast//furious films, [and alliteration]. This is the weakest of the herd, but still entertaining, if you like shit movies that happen to have Devon Aoki in, then you'll probably like DOA better, but this has Ludacris in too... apparantly.

-DOA: Stop judging me, I'll watch something smart like An Education or Frost/Nixon tomorrow. Ok? Has Devon Aoki, one day the stars will align and she'll appear in a film with Summer Glau and Jewel Staite. And some whipped cream.

-Snatch//Snatch Wars: They go through bone, like buttah.

-Halo Legends: Not bad actually, kind of animatrixey, except not as good.

-Julie and Julia: A bit unexpected, just finished this about half hour ago, it's really rather good, I found it on a friend's hard drive, hoping for lesbian porn, needless to say that I was overjoyed when Meryl Streep appeared on screen. Honestly, I found the Julia side of things a bit irritating, but necessary I suppose, and the ending bugged me somewhat, but it made me smile, which is enough for me.

-Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant: Underwhelming, I mean it wasn't terrible, well, not completely, it passed an hour or two in the background. Like Harry Potter hits fifteen and starts dying his hair black and listening to whatever the equivalent of Linken Park is for people born in the mid ninties. Don't pay money for it, unless you hate money, and films.

Yeah, there might be more, I forget. Alice in Wonderland wednesday, I can't wait.

'UP" is such an awesome film. I love it. Really funny AND emotional. Pixar are talented bastards that's f'sure.
