The Pledge (aka "Oh No, I'm Going Quasi-Political Again!")
The Pledge (via one of my fb posts from late Tsunday) :
Just because I leave "under g-d" out of the Pledge Of Allegiance doesn't make me unAmerican - it wasn't there from 1892 to 1954 and was added under false pretense (from a sermon loosely based on Lincoln's Gettysburg Address), so I'm not about to include it now!
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America,
and to the republic for which is stands,
one nation, indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all."
(originally by Francis Bellamy, 1924-1954 [last voted upon] version)
per the Flag Code, the Pledge "should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag" [contrary to popular believe, the right hand over the heart is not necessary nor "required" but rather of personal preference].
persons in uniform should remain silent, facing the flag, and rendering the military salute during the Pledge in respect to the nation they serve under.
the "Bellamy Salute" was the initial regard during the Pledge but was changed during Franklin Roosevelt's term as president due to it's similarity to the Nazi Salute.
The American's Creed (William Tyler Page, 1917) :
"I believe in the United States of America, as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.
I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies."
