Just got back from the lake. Caught a bunch of fish, kept three big catfish. My dad and I were literally the only people on the lake catching anything. Got me a year pass, so I'm going to be spending many cold mornings before sunrise catching myself some dinner.
And let me say WOW! Calaveras lake kicks ass! I was expecting it to be like Braunig (picture a puddle in the middle of a nuclear test site devoid of all signs of life and you've almost got it), but it couldn't have been more different than that. In fact, Calaveras is one of the best lakes I ever been to. The only problem is the lack of access (only three miles of shoreline - compared to western lakes where you get 100% access in most places), and the number of people (to be expected, all of them were families - tomorrow school starts for the little kids).
So tomorrow morning I'm heading out to do some midnight fishing. Then it's off to school to register for classes (fuck, I haven't even picked them yet!).
Oh yeah, the coolest thing is the fact that they ALLOW CAMPFIRES! How fucking cool is that! (eat THAT Smokey! fucker!).

To recap, I rediscovered an awesome lake nearby that has the WEIRDEST varieties of fish I've ever heard of in freshwater inland. Things like carp, gar (an alligator/fish hybrid type thing; kinda similar to a baracuda) and EELS. In fact, the record eel caught at this lake was four founds and forty inches long.

Wow, that was a fucking bust. just got back from the Guadalupe River south of Seguin. Holy hell. I spent an hour driving around just LOOKING for the fucking river. Lol. Seriously, though, it took me an hour to find the boat launch because the map I got from the State of Texas was WRONG. Then it turns out that the boat launch truly is UNDER the highway (Interstate 10, no less, which was super busy even at four in the morning). The bed of the river was so cluttered I couldn't reel in my line without losing the damn hooks. Plus it was cold and I'm still sick, and now feel sicker. I still can't find the McQueeny ramp. There's signs for it, but the signs disappear before you get anywhere NEAR the river.
I'm going to get out to Medina Lake today, if I can, to take a look around. See if I can't find me some of those carp and eels and gar. hehehe.

Carp, to those that do not know, are like a cross between a Goldfish and a catfish; literally. They like super-sized goldfish with wiskers, and apparently they fight more than anything when hooked (don't worry, vegan friends of mine; carp are the strongest fish around - you can literally leave them out of water, in the sun, for a whole day and they won't die. They're the Super Man of the fish world).
