I understand being understanding about her being hurt and not being able to make it, but you should be mad about her not contacting you to tell you. It is disrespectful. I am not saying that people necessarily do this intentionally, but if you accept someone being disrespected like that, it is likely to continue. Unfortunately what they say about respect is often true, you need to demand it. (This doesn't have to be in an aggressive way, it can be as simple as giving the person the cold shoulder to show that you are not ok with being disrespected.)

that's good to hear. without getting too much on the couch, i had a pretty weird childhood and my survival mechanisms came from realizing that if there was a nuclear war and everyone i ever knew was gone, i'd have to get up every morning, strap it on and figure the shit out. I think i saw a movie once that spurred that epiphany, but that's really my swing thought. i let other people in, but at the end of the day, i have to be square business with myself.
