So where are we now? I am going to do this from memory, so if I mess up, be kind.

Right after Congress decided to declare independence, Washington was in what is now Brooklyn Heights. The British had over 300 ships in the lower bay, and had landed 30,000 troops on Staten Island. Let me just say that again. 30,000 troops. 300 ships.

The British...

Thanks for your comments in my journal. It looks like you and your partners have a good thing going on with your company, so congrats on that...

I am actually reevaluating my interest in doing my magazine, at least for right now. My intention is firmly set on expanding my creative resume this year, and between that and working the day job (location sound), I've already got a pretty full plate...

But I'd love to see yours once you have the beta done. Please send me the link when it's up and running, and good luck with everything!

Best, Davis

Looks like no sign of little Beagle...bummer.
legionnaire:
I'm bummed about Beagle 2 also... but haven't completely given up hope yet.

As for the SGNY party - I think it's supposed to be for SGNY members. I actually thought you were in group already. smile I can ask and see if you can just come along with me (or just come along anyway). If you want to apply to the group - we just reviewed applications for new members two days ago so we probably won't do it again for at least another week.

I wonder how much of a geek it makes me, when I am staying up late X-mas eve, just to see if Beagle2 landed on Mars alright.

Strange how this has so little effect on my life, but I am on the edge of my seat about it. I remember when we got the Mars rover pics back, and I even remember way back as...

Fun facts about the birth of our nation:

Corrections( due to re-reading source ): Here's what really happened. The vote for independence was taken on the 2nd. Another vote was taken on the 4th, with the same results. But the delegates did not sign until Aug 2nd. John Hancock did put his John Hancock on there on the 4th, but more as a formality, it...

thanks for the sweetness about my new set kiss

Yeah, i've definitely had similar experiences with New York women. The truth is often stranger than fiction, especially in this city. It does provide some amusement though, even if it's of the "I can't believe we've allowed civilization to degrade this much" variety.

As for your request... that's a good one. A very good one, and one that I'm particularly interested in. The short answer - nobody knows. The long answer... I'll post. It's going to have to be a multi-part session, I'll do one on cellular/molecular memory (I may have to split those into two if they get too long) and one on structural/neuroanatomical memory. Very cool stuff though.

Yep, SG is great for meeting people with all sorts of random knowledge. I actually stole the idea for biology discussions from Minty, who does Archaeology hour every other week or so. You should check it out, it's full of fun facts.

Have a nice christmas. Are you going to go to the SGNY party on the 3rd?

A little more good news this week. Just got a letter saying that one of my movies, MAGIC JUAN will screen at Anthology Film Archives, in NYC. This is a pretty good venue, as it is well know enough to get industry types and investor types to come out.

legionnaire:
hey - thanks a lot for the link, that's really interesting stuff about seeing organic molecules and water outside of earth. I get off on deep space science, in case you haven't already noticed. wink

Congrats on your film being shown Anthology Archives. Do you know when it's going to premier? That might be a fun SGNY outing to get everyone to come watch it together.

So I posted this in another guy's journal, but here it is again, because it is a burning topic.

Am I the only one who doesn't get Cryptonomicon? I am about 650 pages in, and it's okay, but not nearly the mind-blowing experience all of my friends told me it would be. I find myself skipping ENORMOUS sections of that book, and trying to get...

Yes, that is what I hear, so I am planning on picking that up next.

Another day of writing. Man, writing sucks. I always say I want to just get a screenwriter, but I just don't trust anyone to do what I want. But just the constant process of writing, reviewing, looking for weakness, editing...ugh! When I was younger, I thought writing would be fun, but man, it's a royal pain in the ass!

if u like "existential blues", and have good resources for getting online music, then you can find recordings of one of my favorite bands, mr bungle, doing a cover of this song live. it may entertain you.
poopoohead:
Thanks, you rock.

So I wanted to have something here to kick things off...but really it's a tired and miserable day out today, so there is not much exciting to write about. I have been indoors all day, working on a new script and trying to get it in shape for showing investors and studio types at the next screening of my last short.

Okay, a little explanation....

Wow, that is awesome. I mean, if you had any friends on this site, they might come say something cool about this. Or just write you off as a sad, sad drunk, as per your profile picture. But since no one really gives a damn enough to do either, I got your back, brother.
