Wow, it's been a long time since I've been on here.

Someone actually was nice enough to pay to reactivate my account. Otherwise, in all honesty, I probably wouldn't be around.

So, a lot's happened since the last time I was on (which apparently was about a year and a half ago.)

I no longer live in England. While I was working at Cambridge I...

Well, I've moved once again, and am finally settled down, more or less. For the moment, anyway.

I ended up in a really cool farmhouse a little bit north of Cambridge. It's a giant house that was split into three different apartments, mine is a 3 bedroom (that's being generous, the third "bedroom" is pretty tiny) which is enormous by New York standards. The best...

Well, now I live in England. Funny how something like that can happen so quickly.

I arrived on Friday morning after an uneventful flight on the not-so-lovely Air India. After sitting for 1+ hours in line at immigration I finally got on the tube to London, grabbed a train at King's Cross and arrived in Cambridge at noon. Checked into my room in the lovely...

So, much to my surprise, I discovered yesterday that my account is apparently still active. I had no idea, i haven't logged in since last November.

How is everyone?

I'm moving to England in a month for my new job. Should be fun.

I've been well; going to school part time, hoping to make it full time here relatively soon and make a much needed career change.

I've been to Cambridge many times. Beautiful city especially when the sun is out. A bike is almost mandatory to get around sometimes, especially during the football matches.
kay:
It is crazy you are moving across the pond! You must be excited and nervous!

What job are you doing out there? Is your lady traveling with you?

Drop a line when you can.

So I cancelled the rebilling on my account, as many of probably have deduced by now. It's not a guarantee that I won't be back, but right now I'd say probably not.

Regardless, SG has been fun, I've met some cool people and I'll miss many of you. Take care.

Good one in the alleged news. It will be a dark day when the little lightbulb up there is unscrewed (and recycled?). Take care out there in the big world.

I've been on SG for four years. I've got to say, I'm not sure that I want to stay.

I've slowly come to the realization that there are a lot of things that I just don't have in common with the typical SG member. I'll list a few.

1. I'm in my 30's.
2. I don't think words are automatically granted special meaning because someone...

Hell, I walk on water smile I believe in education and I back up all my facts with well-furnished evidence. Except that first claim, that was completely spurious. I cannot walk on water, in fact, I can barely walk on 3 gin tonics frown You're right.

I decide to come back once I get that 30 bucks for a year offer or whatever, and everyone I liked on this site is gone.

It really has lost most of its appeal and luster. I kind of regret coming back myself.

Well, I'm now officially in my 30s. It doesn't feel so bad I suppose, but I guess it's a time to reflect on the things that I have and haven't done so far in my life.

Things I've accomplished:
Graduated college.
Finished my PhD.
Been in a relationship more than a year (almost 3 years now.)
Wrote a book.
Published several academic articles.
Traveled...

All those goals will probably modify too! Hahaha. In a good way.....

I love my 30s. They beat my 20s all to hell. Everyone thinks I look 25 anyway. Woot!

Great goals. I should make mine too.......
In response to yours, I think it's so shocking because both these men are under 30 significantly.....
I didn't expect the whole settle down thing.... I'm just having fun dating, cash in my new job, a new house etc. I didn't expect the whole settle down and be serious thing.
I've had the settle down family thing for years. I just make my own version of it. I dunno. It shocks me I guess.

I've been toying with the idea of dating a significantly older man in the future. Haha. All of my current gentlemen are alot younger than I. I had the pleasure of being aquainted to someone 10 years my senior this summer. I liked it. biggrin

Congrats on joining the apres-20s club.

Now find some conference in Australia you can present at. It's your turn to visit.

What the hell has happened to New York City? It's like I went into hiding to finish all of my school work and research, and now that I've finally reemerged the city has been populated entirely by assholes (well, a new, more loathsome breed of assholes, anyway.)

Rather than waxing nostalgic about a place that clearly never existed, I'll freely admit that New York City...

Well, it's all over. It's funny to think that you can work for years and years (almost six in my case) on one project, present it in an hour, and then you're finished and can move on to bigger and better things.

So rather than continuing to be cryptic, I'll just say that I finally defended my thesis on Thursday on, and passed the defense....

Finally finished writing. It was long and painful and required more 18 hour days than I'd care to remember. And even though i'd like to do nothing more than sleep for the next week, I've got to finish my revisions and editing so I can hand in the thesis on Friday. Then I've got to start working on my seminar. But it's almost over.
