Things are good here. I picked up a squad, so it's good to be in charge of some people again. It's only temporary, four of the soldiers graduate in a month or so and one of them is due to be dropped from the school once the paperwork goes through, BUT, it's all good.

One's a pretty squared away dude, even if he is a...

Today was our training exercise at Ft. Ord's MOUT (Military Operations in Urban Terrain) site.

I had a blast. I am smoked. So now it is time to go and hit the town.

There were some disappointments, though. In particular, the lack of aggressiveness on the part of my junior soldiers. I know a lot of you may have some trouble understanding why this bothers...

This will be a busy week. I'll be spending Saturday at Ft. Ord conducting some Urban Operations training. Should be fun, but it'll be a chore, that's for damn sure.

Lots of training and school this week. Joj!

joy, for sure.

SO tomorrow I am marching in another memorial day ceremony. This one should be less stressful. It was a nice weekend. Went on a mini-two day bender, which actually managed to leave half the weekend and me going... Whoa... What next?

Thursday night... Went out, got tore up bar hopping. Started off with dinner at the Crown & Anchor, where I met a girl who...

Memorial Day may not be until Monday, but DLI had their ceremony today. Today they honored the thirteen graduates of the Defense Language Institute who have given their lives in the Global War on Terror.

Memorial services never become easy. I've been to entirely too many and today will not be my last.

This was the hardest service I have ever been to.

SGT Myla...

I'm so torn about military folks.

On the one hand, they have all the loyalty and courage that I so admire in people...

On the other hand...I just can't stand to lose them...or have them push me away for fear of their own deaths...etc...

I love and hate them for the same reason.

Tonight I'll drink to your friend Myla.

*cheers*

So, it's a short week. Hooray. Still trying to find out what I am doing. I want to get out of town, but I'm kind of out of options. I don't have enough bread to float a REAL vacation, and getting in touch with crash space has been more difficult than usual, but that's because I don't have quite the same web of connections here...

Heh...

So I'm loaded... (right now even)

And I catch a cab... He can get me to the gate, but not on DLI... Fucker. So... I get the ride to the gate...

And proceed to run the rest of the way.

Why?

Well, I hit a group of privates stumbling home from the bar. They say "You like Airborne or something?" I tell them to...

So the Presidio opens up to the public tomorrow.

There will be presentations and cultural events all day long.

I recommend the Chinese Dragon Dance. It looks pretty awesome.

And I will be doing Serbian and Croatian folk dancing at 2 pm

Fun.

Come on out and see us.

Yeah, so I haven't gotten around to checking on gettingmy laptop fixed. Pain in my ass.

So no IMing for the time being.

Just here once every day or two.

Yeah, so it's 4:30am. I got up 24 hours ago. I still have 3 and a half to go. Jesus. I hate CQ sometimes.

Still, I watched Miracle this evening. I fucking love that movie. It's an inspiration. One of my earliest memories was the Miracle on Ice. My family and I were on our way (oddly enough from DLI) to Goodfellow AFB in Texas...

Thought you might be interested.

There's a triathlon in Pacific Grove every year. Details Here.

There are both Olympic and sprint distances.

And a reminder about the Big Sur Half-Marathon. Which is actually in Monterey. Great run, flat, along Ocean View Ave.

Both events will fill up several months prior.

Huh. Gonna have to check Miracle out.

Well.

This past weekend was quite fun. The bridge turned out to only have been lightly toasted. That's good. The worst news, though, is my computer passed away.

We're still not sure what happened. We took my friend Tara out for her birthday on Saturday and she crashed at my place. We're sleeping and she's like "I need to use your bathroom." And all of...

So I got pretty drunk last night.

I think I may have burned a bridge with one of the few girls here that are actually worth it.
