Today was our training exercise at Ft. Ord's MOUT (Military Operations in Urban Terrain) site.
I had a blast. I am smoked. So now it is time to go and hit the town.
There were some disappointments, though. In particular, the lack of aggressiveness on the part of my junior soldiers. I know a lot of you may have some trouble understanding why this bothers me, but let me explain.
In everyday life, aggression isn't quite so desirable. In a firefight, however, it is a neccessity. Think about it. It's two people FUCKING TRYING TO KILL EACH OTHER. So the person who is the most aggressive and can take the initiative and really capitalize on it has the advantage. I dunno about you, but when it comes down to me and them, I'd rather give ME the advantage.
So my team gets picked to be an assault team and bust intoa building that was housing snipers. We move under fire to the building at which point I do my best Dick Winters "Follow Me!" and charge in.
Follow me to me means Follow Me.
Follow Me to my team means Watch Sergeant Higgins charge into a building all by his lonesome and get killed in the last room after he's cleared four others.
And they wonder why I got mad at them.
ANyway, that monent aside, great day of training, a lot of fun, time to play as hard as I worked today and no, I will not be anywhere near as aggressive in this arena.
