jeez, you wake up at noon thinking you're going to have a peaceful day and everything goes nuts, and before you know it, it's 1.30 and you haven't gotten anything done yet.

alright, so today's vinyl playlist that i've drug out to be spun:
siouxsie and the banshees - join hands
psychedelic furs - mirror moves
bob marley - chances are
thrashing doves - bedrock...

last night:
went to see party of helicopters at mynka's request. stopped by estelle's for a burger on the way. was talking to the bartender, told him where i was headed. he says "oh, my friend dave that works here is in one of the other bands playing there tonight. here's some free tickets." gave me 2 comp passes. i called like 6 people, couldn't...

okay, you are so in trouble...
i knew you weren't into them, but you want to punch my friend in the face?
sheesh.

i may have owned a sum41 cd but never anything depeche mode...

i can't stop thinking about what you have a degree in, considering my bizarro recent experience with christianity. very intriguing. i'd like to discuss this topic further with you.

oh yeah, the other night after your p.o.h. show, i was so completely wasted. i had a lovely night of drinking with the computer.
just in case you couldn't tell.

yeah, um. oops.

navin:
yeah, pinball fucking rocks too.. my favorite game? probably Creature from the Black Lagoon.. that game was sick.. there's this sweet bar in seattle called Shorty's Coney Island... they serve hotdogs and the like, all old school vids, and like 10 pinball machines.. throw in the $2 lucky lagers.. heaven biggrin

book keeping is definitely -not- my strong point

still re-hydrating from last night, and it's 5pm

last night's bowling ... fun but once again, sub-par performance on my part. i think i need to start going more than once a week again, probably to waveland or timber. or both, alternately. something like that. at any rate, my game has dropped severely since moving up here,...

navin:
bowling kicks all the ass. that's all there is to it. yeah, i wasn't exactly throwing well last night, best score - 192.. ugh... but what do you expect, i hadn't rolled in a couple of weeks.... (still pisses me off though)... league starts in a month.. nayce. biggrin

this originally started out as a response to Mynka's journal but it grew into something of its own, so i'm posting it here instead.

i had another bust today in the world of business / job interviews / whatever.

i met a guy for lunch. he's rich and is CEO of some fucking company or other. i spend over an hour talking this guy up...

mynka:
going home by yourself, for the "newly single" starts off as a great novelty. and the optimist recalls all the times and opportunities refused when you had a mate, thinking that this new wealth of possibility is f-ing fantastic. uhh... yeah. not quite.
today is EXACTLY my 2 year anniversary of being single. he moved out the same easter sunday joey ramone died.

i totally need a drink.

should i buy a body piercing shop?

actually, i wouldn't be buying the whole thing, just a piece. here's the scoop:

my friend opened this place in 1989, but he's tired of it and wants out. a guy that has worked for him for 10 years is trying to buy it from him but can't get all the money together that he needs, so he...

YES! so at least I have one place I can be a piercer... I want a job as a piercer so badly.. but in sydney its such a small market and to get an apprenticship you have to wait until a piercer dies or moves out of town before their is an opening,... lol ... my selfishness aside...

look at the profit.... do you trust the people who run it implicitly? would you find it hard to sell your share if the time came and you had to get out quickly?.... would the other dude consider you to be a silent partner or would you want to be involved? if the shit hit the fan would you be able to run it ok? you have to think worse case scenario like if someone died would you be able to cover expenses and shit until you found another piercer.. lol thats whne I step in tongue

food for thought anyway......
dollface:
i forgot that my membership runs out tomorrow. until i actually have $ in my account, i will be on hiatus.

which shop?

if you say obscurities i will be stoked.

what a fuckin weekend. kick ass rock n roll, bbq at my place (i love to cook, especially if it involves fire) in honor of my roommate's birthday, a cubs game (we won!), another birthday dinner for an old friend's girlfriend, and drinking alone at the L&L tavern. appropriately enough, someone played "whiskey bar" by the doors on the juke. and the bartender gave me...

and it has been many, many years since i have seen it.
i love that david bowie...

your weekend sounds quite exciting, but the fun isn't stopping there...
you have a thrilling evening in store tomorrow if you attend the party of helicopters show!
*get their new cd.
*keep eyes peeled for extra tall latino road manager
*buy him a shot of jack for me.

i'll be here, probably seeing the crimson sweet .
what do they sound like?

the epoxies were great -- seriously, they rocked

but the surprise of the evening was a band i'd never heard of called the vexers! they blew me away - really great rock n roll, from philly. said they were coming back in a couple months, told em i'd be there. can't wait. bought a cd and a t-shirt. on top of that, the singer chick...

rock chick singer who likes bowling! brilliant
I've got my eye out for a rock chick who likes the footy

kopper:
at least disco has the slow beats... i'm being subjected to more bpms, and the occasional squelching acid bassline. it's the equivalent of non-stop cher.

hooked myself up with wgn yesterday, and watched the cubs/pirates game today... sweet.

the polyphonic spree was simply amazing last night. that was one of the best live shows i've ever seen. fucking dallas, represent! they encored with a cover of "five years," which rocked.

post-show drinking solo at estelle's. sat down, and before i ordered my first drink, "five years" came on the jukebox. i love that kind of thing. hot bartendress working. got started talking to...

"are you a courier?"
"no,I'm the lawn mower man"
sheesh!!
kopper:
speaking of liquor, oddly enough, i forgot to pick up a bottle on my run for groceries.. my local bar had some hideous old woman working the grill, something like a sea hag.. she had a toothy grin, and quite a gnarly face. i can't argue with her fish and chips though.. completely excellent.

bacon on the burger?

i just saw a great baseball game. prior (for the cubs) threw a 4-hit complete game shutout against vazquez (for the expos), who threw a 5-hitter over his 7 innings but gave up a 2-run homer in the 2nd. prior even had an RBI single in the 8th for the added oomph. i loves the pitching battles!

there was some added entertainment bleacher-style, courtesy of...

anyhoo, yeah! smoked gouda is a great cheese specimen as well. i was onced asked to name a good friend's dog...i had just gotten back from amsterdam at the time, and i said "gouda."

so gouda she was. great dog, yellow lab, sweet as pie.
chiquita:
haHA!

the cheese song rocks!

good and bad bowling, great entertainment, free drinks, and being referred to as "Tex." what more could you ask for from a night at the lanes, other than maybe better scores?

the inimitable Julia the bartender from Texas (where everything is bigger) poured 2 free glasses of dewar's for me tonight, simply because she saw my Texas driver's license in my wallet when i went...

the party of helicopters are playing in chicago at the double door on the 15th. dunno if you ever listened to them, but live they are unbelievable. FOR REAL. the guitar player is out of this world with the talent. and you could see the latino, their road manager. and the worlds most unsuspecting heartbreaker. i think this last bout of latino fever has me cured now....
yeah, try to see this band.
you will thank me.
