I Love October
It is really one of my favourite months of the year. The colours on the trees are so vibrant! The air is so crisp and clean smelling. This weekend is the Canadian Thanksgiving, and I'm looking forward to making a pig of myself at a friends' "Orphan Thanksgiving" party this weekend - they have a big pot luck dinner for all of their friends who don't have family around. I've been asked to bring spinach dip... which I've never made, so if you've got a recipe please feel free to send it to me
Hallowe'en is probably *the* best part of October... I love trick-or-treaters, the parties, the candy... oh! the candy. If you plan to dress up, do you guys know what you'll be yet? I have last year's Little Red Riding Hood costume kicking around, and the Tonks outfit I made for the Harry Potter releases this summer (I'd have to dye my hair pink again, of course). I don't know. I would really like to bust out and do something cool, but what? Suggestions?
BUSY
I do appologise for my lack of updates as of late. I'm in the process of selling my townhouse; it was my very first experience in real estate, and buying is a far more comfortable process than selling. I still have much to do to get the house ready for showings (which could start as early as Tuesday
).
No Thank You
As you may know, I volunteer for an animal rescue; in May, I adopted out a kitten (Bug) to my friend/boss at the movie theatre. Bug fell ill ten days or so after she adopted him, and I drove to her house, picked up Bug and took him to the vet (my friend has no car or license). Bug passed away at my house, in my arms the next day. The rescue offered to replace the kitten for her the next time we got some long-haired kittens in (that was what she liked about Bug). In August, I got a litter of kittens in... cute little fluff balls, perfect for my friend. She came over to my house (well, I brought her here) and she picked one out. I've heard from friends at work that she often complains about the cat, even saying that she doesn't see "it" very often or know where "it" is all day. Sad, because she is a very cool kitten, or was when I had her, anyway. Wednesday morning I got a call from the rescue, they told me that the Humane Society in The City had gotten a kitten in from our town and the microchip was registered to our rescue. We had had this huge mix-up with the microchips and our litter of rescues were never registered with their microchips, so the microchip read with the rescues info. So I'm told there's this kitten, black and white, down at the shelter. I know my brother took a black and white one home with him to the coast this summer, and I have a black and white one... the only other black and white one belonged to my boss. I called her up and casually asked if her kitten "Mally" was around - she tells me that she hasn't seen "it" in THREE DAYS. This is an indoor cat, and she hasn't seen her in three days? Seriously?! I told her that the Humane Society got one in that fit Mally's description. She starts fuming about her landlord leaving the front door open, yadda yadda yadda. Sigh. I told her I'd pick her up in 20 minutes and we'd travel into The City to pick up the cat. I had never driven that far south into The City before, I had to use a map. We picked up the cat (she was fine) and started back to our little town. On the way my friend tells me that she's not bringing Mally back to her place. Sigh. I offered to watch the cat while she arranged something for both her and the cat (she gave her "notice" to the landlord that afternoon). Even though Mally and my kitten - Quiggley - are littermates, they fought terribly. Mally kicked the crap out of Quiggley and scared Nermal so bad she hid for hours at a time, coming out only to eat. What bugs me, is that for all I did, my friend didn't even say "thank you" or offer to chip in for gas (40-50+km trip) or anything. I'm not trying to sound like a martyr or anything - I did offer to help, but a little manners go a long way. Do you think I'm being ridiculous? Fortunately, Mally was picked up yesterday afternoon and taken to my friend's parent's house.
This is how I found Quiggley sleeping on my computer chair yesterday. She's the oddest little cat....
