Oh Me Oh My
Today was crazy insane. I'm physically and emotionally drained, and yet, I don't think I could sleep even if I tried.
I did a lot of running around today. Nothing major in the morning, but I did pick up a pretty wicked sewing book in The City - I'm really excited about getting started on some projects. Into The City and back, that was say 2 hours; I came home, had lunch, cleaned the kitty box, fed the dog, had a wee nap... it was when I woke up that all hell broke loose.
My friend/manager at work called me up. "My kitten is sick, really really sick - what do I do?" Since this was the kitty I adopted out to her last Saturday, I figured I'd handle it. The symptoms sounded *bad** dehydration
* puffy gunky eye
* underweight
* couldn't stand up - weak
* not eating/drinking
* probable worms
I called the rescue and asked for advice (which vet, could it wait until morning and so on). Nope. Rush him in right away. So I hop in my car and race across town, grab the kitty, race back to the other side of town (all in rush-hour traffic, btw) and get him to the doctor.
The prognosis for this little guy is not good. The vet said I could take him home and keep him warm and try my best to get him to eat - but even with lots of attention, he still might not make it. Since my friend works a lot more than I do, I told her I'd look after him and try to nurse him back to health.
This is what he looked like 10 days ago.
Here he is today.
I did get him to eat a bit of wet food, watered down - out of a syringe.
Here he is fed and pretty content.
For anyone who missed my previous post, this kitten was one of 50 that came into our rescue from one house. Lots of inbreeding going on, plenty of infections as well. Apparently, two more kittens at the rescue passed away today
They came from that house too. I'm really quite concerned.... as the pregnant cat I am fostering may have babies that are just as sickly as these kittens.
Later on, just before dinner I got a call from my mom. My great aunt died in the night. She was one of my only relatives nearby. We spent Christmas and Easter together. She had a good, long life - I think I'm more sad for her son and my gramma. I'm not too sure how I feel yet.
