I attended my very first comic/sci-fi expo this weekend. Soooooo much fun. Here are a couple of highlights:
My Yoda backpack really got a lot of comments. It was kind of surreal having people stop me and ask for photos of my backpack lol, that was something I totally was not expecting (especially since I wasn't Skywalkered-up or anything).
There was so much art to look at. I swear, I could have very easily spent about five grand on toys, busts, and art for my house. I did get one print for myself though, a very cool-looking wookie by Canadian artist Dale Hayward.
I got to meet Angus Oblong - I think he may have been drunk. I saw him leave mid-conversation to "go look at a guy with no legs." Oblong was dressed like a mime with a clown nose. Interesting guy, but kind of strange.
Ray Park was one of the head-lining guests - I was super excited to meet him. I lined up for about half an hour to get a (very old) pic of my little brother dressed as Darth Maul signed, but Park was charging $25 for each item signed. I was bummed. Especially because I wanted each of my boobs signed on top of the photo, lol.
I had the opportunity to meet some amazing artists - Kei Acedera andJoe Pekar (keep an eye out for his Zombie Pin-Up Girls book!) were some of my faves. Robert Picardo from Star Trek Voyager was there, but I only caught a glimpse of him (who likes Star Trek anyway? lol). I also missed Lou Ferringo - how I can't imagine, but I did. Darick Robertson (The Boys) was supposed to be there - I looked for him allll day - but due to passport issues he didn't make it.
Rescue
My foster dog Bear was adopted this past week. It's a bittersweet victory - I'm happy he has a permanent home, but after having him for 8 months I did grow quite attached. I'm going to miss him. I think what makes me even sadder is that he was adopted out without my consult. Bear had been back at the rescue for about 2 weeks, we were trying to figure out what was causing all of his stressful freak-outs; when I met up with some members of the rescue this weekend I was simply told, "Oh, by the way, Bear got adopted he's gone to (someplace far away)." I'm a bit choked about that. The people who run the rescue would not adopt him out to anyone unqualified to care for him, so I suppose all I can do is accept their decision.
On a happier note, I picked up my new foster dog this Saturday. Her name is Maya; she's a two year old German Shepard/Border Collie/Blue Heeler mix - mostly black with a bit of white on her chest. Having only had big brute male labs for so long, I forgot how sweet and gentle females could be, lol. Maya is very mellow, good off-leash, friendly with other dogs (except little wee ones, she growls at those), house-trained, excellent being left alone.... I'm sure she'll find a home this weekend at our adopt-a-thon.
More
The car-ride home was long, so I played with the camera for a bit.
