The Very Next Day
The dog that I foster for a local animal rescue came back home Sunday. While doing Pet Pics with Santa at Petsmart last weekend, a man came up and seemed interested in old Bear (who, for non-regular readers is a 13 y.o lab shep cross) - and after some discussion, decided to take him home for a trial-run, of sorts. He was returned to the store just several hours later; Bear's age had been too much of an issue for the family, and who can blame them, really. I had gone home to rest my aching elf-feet by then, but the people who run the rescue were still there and they took him back to the farm with them. Since their farm is way-the-heck-out-there, they opted to keep him for the week, and have me pick him up during their regular showing of pets at the Petsmart the following weekend.
By the time I pulled into the parking lot I was really feeling anxious about seeing him. You know when you just can't freaking wait to throw off your seatbelt and fling open the car door and run? The doors jushed and there he was - smelly, stinky old Bear, I missed him so.... One of the founders of the rescue had him and two other dogs there; he only mentioned after Bear's leash was in my hand that Bear had gotten into some horse deworming medication - and that he might be a tad *fragrant* on the way home. OMG, he was not kidding... I didn't care how cold it was outside, the windows were going *down* on that ride (
seriously, he just let one go AGAIN, and it's so so so so so incredibly bad - blech).
I've got to write a little about the two other dogs that were there (being shown for adoption), they were so sweet and cute and I would seriously have taken them both home with me if I could have. First, the old German Shepard cross - what a cuddly dog! Kneeling down to give him pats on the head, my cohort soon found himself being *hugged* by this dog - and not in a gross I'm-humping-your-leg hug, or a I'm-gonna-slobber-all-over-your-face hug, but a genuine HUG. His name is George. The second dog came with a sad story... a gorgeous black and tan dog, with a rottweiler-ish look to her, but the size of a large terrier - she was a real cutie, who rolled almost instantly for belly rubs. I noticed that she had the look of a dog who had recently been nursing pups, and sure enough, that was the case - her previous owners had decided to get rid of her after they had gotten rid of all the puppies. Makes me sad to see.
If anyone would like info on pet adoption from the rescue I volunteer for, please message me and I can give you websites and phone numbers and personality profiles - anything
They are in need of reliable foster homes for dogs and cats at the mo.
Other Stuff
I got to see "The Holiday" this weekend - an excellent date movie. I'm glad the Kate Winslet/Jack Black romance was there to counterbalance the very superficial and ditzy Cameron Diaz character (oh, all that *talking*). Just about anyone who sees the flick will prolly agree that JB was sadly underused though.
I'm also compiling a list. And OH what a list it will be.... It's a list of all the people I have a crush on and who I have had crushes on (famous-ish, most of them, because telling you that I had a big crush on some guy named Kyle in ninth grade doesn't really mean anything to anyone but me, lol)
