Well, back to normal. You won't have to worry about hearing about that K. any more (if you missed my update on that front, check yesterday's edited journal entry.)

Today was sort of hectic, actually. I had a whole bunch of stuff to do in the lab, and ran around like a chicken with its head cut off (an apt image for my lab, actually)...

Hey, you should totally go for the BLOG editor thing. Be very cool.

And sorry I did not make it out yesterday. Wow, life has just started kicking my ass. Yesterday was spent holding a software client's hand all day, as we launch a new product.

And today, I will miss the Superbowl party I was invited to. It seems that, in addition to directing this movie, the backer is interested n my company producing it. Which will be good, as I would like us to build up a resume of producing as well. But it means today I am working up a proposed budget. I'm calling it: "How to get a complete stranger to hand you $3 million, so you can do what you love" wink

edited to say: because of these business things, social life is waning. I have hardly been on this site at all lately, either. But in this economy, being very busy is an incredible blessing...

"Just because you're paranoid...."

Well, I posted two days ago that I was really bummed out about not hearing from K. Then I e-mailed her, and she wrote back, we were supposed to go out on Friday.

She called me tonight to tell me that she had, in fact, met someone else in the two and a half weeks that I had last seen her,...

OK, so after reading yesterday's disaster of a journal entry, let me just say that I'm really not that neurotic and annoying in real life. I need to stop writing journal entries before I've eaten, I think it's bad for civilization in general.

I will say one thing though, thanks to good wishes from everyone. I talked to K. we're on for Friday, everything's cool....

very interesting to read about you're work. but i have a question: being the first person to get those cells to function like that in vitro (geez i hope i used that tern right) seems like something important, certainly something to publish or use for funding etc.

oh were are you going for dinner friday?

Oh the trials and tribulations of dating in the age of the internet. (yes, another emotional lament from legionnaire. Feel free to skip to the end.)

Last week K. and I were e-mailing back and forth quite a bit, mostly about politics and the Iowa caucases and other romantic topics like that. She mailed me a long message on Wednesday, then I mailed her...

e-mail limbo.
you are right ... truly a level of hell.
that sound difficult, but you'll see your way through it.

things are fine. i worked from home yesterday for a half day, and then had an echocardiogram instead. looking at one's heart is truly a humbling experience.

Argh, today was an exceptionally frustrating day. mad

For the last week and a half I've been planning on doing a big series of electrophysiological experiments - I made new recording dishes (which is a giant pain) new culture media and solutions, new extracellular and intracellular recording solutions, new microelectrodes and perfectly timed cell cultures so that I could begin my experiments today.

My idea is...

ah! yeah, next time you guys do the pot brownies thing i'll definitely come!! haha im practically 22 and i haven't even had a damn pot brownie. i'm a total melvin.

you know what you need? some tough love. tell those cells if they don't patch, yr gonna... do something really mean! tongue i dont know the first thing when it comes to patching cells, but i took way too many years of chemistry.
So sometimes seeing big words like electrophysiological make my brain cramp.

over & out.

I'm lame. I slept in until 2:30pm today, so I don't think I'm going to make it to SGNY weekly world domination, as I have to go to en engagement party now. Next week though.... I promise. wink

Last night was fun. With a few of my friends we did a bad movie double feature (with pot brownies.) The first bad movie was Torque. Not only...

Hi,
Whoa, that's crazy! I'm from Christchurch as well -From high school to university, to London-

Small world!

Did your room mate go to Canterbury University?

I've always wanted to go to the Knitting Factory. Last time I was in NY I was going to go to CBGBs but it was a shity band called Dragpipe, hardly The Jesus Lizard wink

I'll let you know when I'm going to be in town.

OK, after a few somewhat serious journal entries, I figured I'd lighten up the mood a tad.

So for those of you who wonder just what, exactly goes on in the mind of a scientist, I offer you this.

Last night I had a truly bizarre dream. Let me preface it by saying that I have never seen the Fox TV show "The Simple Life,"...

that's an odd dream.
the dreams i remember i am either :
a) having an anxiety dream about work where i am missing breaks, fucking up, and generally not doing too well
b) a badass motherfuckin' secret agent in tall boots and a miniskirt with a nine mm in each hand blowing people away.

i like the latter ones.

Well, it's Tuesday night, and about an hour and a half before the State of the Union address, which I will be watching, likely with a mixture of bemusement and horror, as in previous years.

I sometimes wonder why it is that so many of those who are being royally screwed by the Bush administration are its most ardent supporters. Reprobate had an interesting suggestion...

Well, a joyful return to NYC. Boston was.... cold. But that's to be expected. Apparently the weather wasn't so great here either, from what I can tell. But, as always, the Chinatown bus rocks the house. Best deal on the east coast.

Went to my ex's birthday party (some of you may even be familiar with her, she was something of a minor celebrity in...

Chinatown bus DOES rock, when the two lines aren't busy shooting at each other. Still, $25 to Boston can't be beat.

Well, I'm working from home today. Which means I slept 11 hours last night. smile

I'm editing a paper that I'm trying to get published in Development, it's about the role of a particular neurotrophic factor in the development of the tongue. Not exactly scoring high on the scientific sex-appeal meter, unfortunately. But I think it's got a shot at getting accepted.

So yesterday was...
