For those happy few who occasionally read my ramblings, here's an update on my life - the story of this Summer had so far been that I, along with my colleagues, was working on concepts to keep our little school for "behaviorally challenged" boys afloat beyond the new school year, which started 08/20. This wouldn't have been easy in any event, since we also needed the go-ahead and support from the state government, which licenses institutions such as ours. We sought and received their attention, and felt that they would be supportive. However, with less than a week remaining before school would have reopened, our present owner pulled the plug, saying he wasn't going to keep the school going for the max. 2 months we would have needed to incorporate, hire additional teachers etc.
So that was that, and with 3 work days before the new school year, we had to scramble, informing the parents and all the respective youth offices (we have -or had- children from various regions of the states of Berlin and Brandenburg). Then, last Friday, we were unceremoniously requested to turn in our keys and vacate the premises. At the same time, none of us has been terminated, so we're in a bit of a limbo and will very likely have to sue to get our final month(s) of pay as well as other documentation. Those of us who had thought about taking over the school did a little more thinking along those lines, but with no building and no furniture etc. this looked more far-fetched by the day; then my younger colleague applied for and got a job as a teacher (Germany has a huge need for teachers at the moment) so we have basically abandoned that project.
Gee, am I glad I didn't order the "CEO" plaque for my office door just yet! As it is, I'm back on the job market, which I'm sure has just been waiting for me. As they say, when a door closes, another window slams in your face ;-) At least I have a vacation coming up in September...looking forward to getting away from it all.
