*unless you've taken time to get to know the candidates and their stand on the issues, and unless you have truly educated yourself on those issues - and that means weighing the pro's and con's of great and weighty matters that affect your own and everyone's future.
There is a recurring campaign urging people to vote, to more or less mindlessly pull the lever. Is it coincidence that it's the Democrats who are pushing to make voting simpler, less time consuming, less of a chore? The founding fathers never envisioned that people should cast their votes without first giving the matters at hand some serious attention. The truth is that progressives count on the emotionality and short attention span of people. Once you get down to looking into who's going to pay for grandiose promises down the road, you may think twice about voting the big spenders in. In all fairness, I should add that Republicans have been just as guilty in terms of big spending. My point is that prospective voters should invest a little time and effort into knowing about the issues before making up their minds.
