In the neverending battle to keep my old brain up to speed, I've just signed up for an introductory Korean course, also just went downtown to buy the workbooks for the course which begins next week. It may seem a bit weird to learn Korean, since there isn't any workplace use for it, but I've long been fascinated by Korean (and Japanese) art and culture, and recently Korean films. The Korean written language is particularly beautiful (or so I think), and I think it'll really give these old synapses of mine a good workout to tackle a language that is so different from any of the European languages. At the same time, the Korean alphabet should be somewhat easier to learn than the Chinese/Japanese kanji/hiragana/katakana. So, wish me luck! I don't think there are many Koreans on here - offhand I can think of only one hopeful (@blitzdatura88) but perhaps I'll get to know some of them. And I'm looking forward to watching some of my Korean movies with my fave actress Bae Doo-Na in the original.
Also, my workweek has been cut to 20 starting with the new year, and while I'm not really happy about that, it'll give me plenty of time for learning a new language.
OK, off to see the new Walter Mitty movie with Ben Stiller today, looking forward to it! Wishing everyone a happy weekend :-)
