The story (which is technically not a story but a novel) that has done the strongest impact on my life is Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell.

I've started reading the book right at the beginning of my exchange year in the United States. 16 at the time, I was somewhat going through the exact same love life/going-of-age struggle as Scarlet does in the book. Thus, so many events I have literally lived through her eyes and laughed and cried with her.

Events of the book happen during the American Civil War, which I knew very little of at the time, so the book helped me understand more about it and definitely made me do more research on the topic, which is pretty much life changing in itself.

Back then the book made me reflect on who I am and on what my place in the world is. Being on the other side of the world, far far away from home did help with that a lot. Those two things combined created a turning point for me, marked the end of my childhood and started my amazing years of youth.

What's the book that has impacted your life, people? Let me know in the comments! <3

I remember reading it when I was around 20's. I used my college summer vacations to be at the pool, and I read it while I was tanning. It just reminded me of a good time, when I had less worries about life. I love this book.

Nana by Emile Zola because it spoke of a world so very different from mine....so lush, wild and far away. It inspired me to seek with passion and without fear. Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane for I was raised to go to war. It stripped the romance of war so utterly bare and set me on a path to become a very different kind of warrior.
