Twas the day before christmas and all through the office, yup scurrying programmers everywhere trying to get everything done so they can take next week off.
I'm in sort of a whimsical mood this morning, so I went and bought someone a pound of shrimp off their wishlist. Sometimes there's things on there you want to get just to see if they'll actually deliver it. In this particular case it's expidited shipping only, so the shipping is more than the shrimp. There's some other things headed her way too, it just... Read More
Ah tuesday, gaming day once again. Mediocre chinese food, horrible jokes and hanging out with the guys.
Work takes too much out of life these days that I really only spend a couple evenings doing what's really important, just kicking back with friends and doing nothing important at all. And of course most of them are married with kids, and to wives that aren't any... Read More
"But really in most cases what makes a good person to spend your life with isn't the same as what makes a good person to hang out with your buddies anyways.

hrmm, i don't agree. i find, the best relationships i have are the ones where i feel like i am friends with the person and i can get along with their friends. then again, i am not married. but my current boyfriend, i was friends with him for a long time before we went out, and that's why we have so much fun together. your friends just pick crappy chicks i guess. haha.
ewww, children. it's good that they're happy though.... i guess. but eww, children. i think if your friends have boring wives, they are secretly boring!
it's funny how tech companies can end up so much alike. i've got kind of a jaded view of small outfits...
with my old job, they told us a lot about getting stock options and "growing with the company" and so on and so forth, but in the end it came down to one thing: no matter what it would never have been my company. i was being payed peanuts, i was doing work way beneath my level, and i was putting up with a weak CTO - and when it came down to it they really just were building something for themselves on the backs of their coders.
your situation is probably very different from that, but i think it's like what posh said: you have to figure out if it's something you want to own. startups lose money. newly restructured businesses lose money. do you want to commit to it?
Under the list of things you don't want to hear your boss say: "I really don't know why I'm doing this anymore, maybe I should just move to brazil." Always a good line to inspire confidence going into a new year.
Just did some more reading on the WoW site, and discovered that for some evil reason, 35 has been deemed the level required to... Read More
I never heard that from a boss begore but on the bright side it could mean a promotion.
I am so glad that I don't have high speed interent than i would be spending all my time playing video games. THis is after I spent 30+ hours beating KOTOR 11 which i am presently playing again.
Getting together with the guys for D&D can be alot of fun, even if not everyone shows up like last night. The only problem with that is that we then leave early. Seeing as normally one guy leaves at ten, but the other three players normally do one more encounter and then call it a night. When... Read More
Well the weekend came and went, and once again I didn't do any of the work I brought home with me, damn you WoW! But it's so much fun so I just keep playing anyways.
Still trying to get my sleep times turned around, this is evil, and it sucks, but at least my job's flexible enough that they haven't given me much shit over... Read More
despite d20's dogs in the vineyard suggestion for help, i'd say, if you hear of any jobs, any at all, crappy even, pleeease i beg of you to pass the info along. besides that, dogs in the vineyard is SO not what we are going to play. i want some high fantasy. not mormons!
i almost wish we had jumped in and moved for december 1st, we may have struggled for a bit, but then we would have been able to actually look for jobs in vancouver. it's difficult to do it from so far, and now that we've stayed, my 2.5 months of necessary money is almost gone thanks to crappy rent here. *sigh*
Well we did another one of those state of the office meetings last night, and I think we covered the most important things. Mostly I got to go over the financials for the last few years and look at the break even points for our current staffing levels to decide what I'm going to do next year. So it looks like I'll be taking a... Read More
Who would have thought picking a guild tabard would be such a mess, I mean really, people threatening to quit over it. Paint me pink and slap a target on my ass, I'm running through PVP land!
yeah. well, i'm from toronto. always lived really close to downtown by subway, or right downtown so i never really needed a license. i've got my learners now at least. d20 on the other hand, he had his license, but he was in an accident and his license had expired so they took it away. because he didn't have a license, he needs to pay 1000 to icbc for damage to the other guy's car before he can drive again. it sucks a lot.
we do have somewhere to stay in town. surface, keth in WoW, has offered his place. it's right off davie.
we're not sure what to say to your generosity. it would be really awesome and we'd be able to afford to come, but then at the same time we feel bad accepting it.
i really wish d20's contracts cheque would come in. argh.
Well life's starting to feel a little more in control again. We're going to do another one of those "where are we going with this company?" meetings again. So hopefully that'll resolve some things at least on the work front.
Christmas coming up, still debating what to get my sister, going to have to talk to her and see what the hell she's up to... Read More
