well, a few things....

1. no call back. no job. that sucks. frown seriously, how did they find someone better qualified in a week? for a school district about 10 years behind the times in pay scale? to put things in perspective, I offer:

2 Masters Degrees
5 years experience Higher Education Administration
6 weeks working as a long-term substitute school counselor 7-12

and I applied...

so I have a feeling that things will be winding down at Dundee. which is good in some ways, such as the following:

1. no more getting up at 4:30 to 5:00 AM five days a week.

2. no more leaving my house between 5:30 AM to 5:45 AM to drive there, arriving between 7:15 AM and 7:30 AM. then leaving there between 3:15 PM...

2. crazy stuff with my cousin....his wife has drained their account of about $700 the past few days. his response? he has his own account now....

well, a quick update for everyone about my life right now:

let's see....the long-term sub position is going good for me. however, stuff is happening. I've had to talk to 2 girls about possibly self-injuring. one student had a meltdown. there is a possibility of a 504 student being mis-classified (should he be ED? possibly! especially with Oppositional Defiant Disorder). yeah, stuff has been interesting....

so I've been slacking in writing, I know, I'm sorry...here's what's happening in my life so far:

1. five days a week, I leave my house around 5:30 AM to arrive at Dundee School (its K-12 plus the district offices in one building!) around 7:15 AM. yes, a drive straight through....unless I stop at Wegmans or Burger King to grab something to eat for breakfast...

and today, my step-father took my mom's car in to be looked at...here's how things are going:

1. the shop that the insurance company referred us to is capable of doing all the work.
2. the $500 deductible will not be charged to us. my mom's car insurance company (Liberty Mutual) will be going after the insurance company of the person that hit my mom's...

running around, getting kids to sign up for the PSAT's.

one girl I had to talk with about missing classes...she's currently getting divorced from a 53 year old child molester (huh, why did she marry him?) and fighting him for custody of their daughter. yeah...complicated.

the kid who won't talk...told straight out that if I see him before class, go...

well, just over one week down at the new job. I'm starting to get the "hang" of things. at least in some ways. such as the following:

1. talked with a kid today that was sent down by a teacher. very low functioning with a speech impediment. yeah, it was interesting...he was tough to follow!

2. starting to pick up on kids. one student has...

Mmm, sounds tough.

As for the kid that wont speak. Try sand play. Get a box, doesn't have to be huge or anything and fill it with some nice sand. Maybe have a few toys as well like trucks or dinosaurs. Then sit around it with the kid. Even if he just runs his fingers through it, its somewhat therapeutic. Apparently it really opens them up as well. But if theres no sand, maybe even finger painting or something. Good luck with it. Let me know if you get to try it.
