so next week starts the 8 weeks of the Wegmans "Eat Well Live Well" program.

here's what we basically do:

1. wear a pedometer and strive to get 5,000 steps a day in (let's see, last night, working 5 hours on Helping Hands pushing carts, I approached 25,000 steps).
2. strive for five servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
3. see if you can get your weight down to 'healthy limits"

so right now, i have the steps. the five fruits and vegetables a day will be tough. I'm 5'10" and the heaviest in my life (around 200 lbs. to 210 lbs.). yeah, the last 2 will be tough (the "highest' for "healthy" at my weight is listed at just over 175 lbs.... eeek )

so, suggestions anyone for achieving goal #2?

ADDENDUM:
not a happy post, so in spoilers.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

so starting to feel blah...blah blah blah, blah blah blah.

I really have no social life here. don't go out with friends. have no one I "hang" with. a classmate every so often. outside of that, its either family or I work.

dunno, just kind of bummed. would love to go to Toronto Gala. however, have to work that weekend. which sucks. and I get too nervous around large groups of people. so I would probably either freak out or end up going catatonic (in a serious catatonic way, trust me, its happened). that bites.

and wanting to find a job.....a serious job. sick and tired of this "just making it" crap. i was hoping to hold on to my tax returns for moving costs ('cause, well, considering that my mom owes me over $100 and my older sister owes me money, family is out), and I can't. have to put it towards bills and a car tune-up (60,000 miles). that sucks.

have a coordinator I work with...yeah, she's 10 years younger. but really devious. great personality. okay looks. from what I hear, not really out-going, very shy. i think we would hit it off. but we're 10 years apart. and I'm too chicken shit to make a play. plus no idea how to! yeah, it sucks!

blah. bleck.

this bites.

can I retire from life now?

As far as achieving number 3, screw it. I read an excellent book by loren christianson called the fighters body. In it he sited all sorts of contradictory papers by experts in the field of nutrition and health which shows health limits to be a matter of opinion. Of course someone who weighs 500 lbs is in serious need of weight loss due to health problems but for the most part don't try to stick to a specific weight. Measure it more according to cardio ability, strength, etc. I concentrated on increasing my cardio and found out I lost 40 lbs in a five month time period when I was not counting the weight. By the standards of most health guidelines I am considered obese, however, I can keep up with someone half my weight and outdo them in the strength area. Yes I am overweight but am far from inactive.

Just my opinion though.

As far as the lack of social life and being chicken shit to ask someone out, I can relate and have the same trouble. skull

You know exactly how I feel about the isolation...and the children. Guess what though? I actually got out today for about five hours in a jam packed fire hall filled with complete strangers. Felt strange, but also good to be out. I really need to do it more often.

I don't know if I can join "Geezers" just yet. I still have 10 months before I hit 30. I have seen it before and have wanted to join. Would the fact that I have to use a cane sometimes help me get in? wink Or maybe the fact that I feel fifty? I don't know how strict their rules are on that, letting some "young guy" like me in smile

One day at a time. I know I will figure it out. Just one day at a time.

And your right, I shouldn't give up on women just yet.

Thank you, my friend.
