Two days rolled into one I suppose since I failed to update yesterday or earlier today!
So yesterday was an absolutely dreadful day at work. I had two patients from 0800-1600... This coupled with our internet being down in the rooms made for a rather slow day to say the least.
The first patient was a simple follow-up on dehydration. Basically the guy was retarded and not drinking water. These guys are the reason people think soldiers are stupid. There is no excuse to become dehydrated without an illness causing diarrhea or vomiting. None. Drink water and drive on. Which is basically what I told him to do.
Second patient was like the first but had the excuse of significant diarrhea(we're talking 10 times before noon). I stuck him and gave him a 1.5L of Lactated Ringers (similar to saline however far superior in rehydrating cells. Primarily used for burn victims but it does great on dehydration over sodium chloride(normal saline).
Both patients were done by 1400 leaving me 2 hours of dead space.
However there is a silver lining to this cloud!
Shortly after 1600 a provider called me into one of the exam rooms and I saw one of our, well, less-than-bright fellow medics sitting on the table. Seems he had something wrong with his ear and the doc wanted me to help. So we take a look and what do we find? An unpopped POPCORN KERNEL! I can't even make this up. This genius somehow got an unpopped kernel lodged DEEP in his ear against the tympanic membrane (ear drum) and we were unable to dislodge it with forceps, curettes, or fluids.
Meanwhile, I'm doing the legwork to find these things and explaining to people WHY I need them while trying not to burst out laughing each time. In the end we had to give up for the day due to the inner ear becoming inflamed from all of the attempts at extraction. Good times.
After work I came back to the barracks and took an immediate shower. Post shower, grabbed some dinner and then came back, finished off Negima!? and went to bed.
Today, being a day off, was rather relaxed in every sense of the word. Slept in due to staying up so late last night and skipped breakfast/lunch. Watched "The World God Only Knows" and worked on this new laptop a bit to bring it up to speed with programs and the like. Had dinner and a shower, now I'm just waiting to get to sleep for my "diagnostic" PT test tomorrow at 0400. Total waste of time since it is not recorded but I will still give it a good showing. Then a nice day at work until 1700 or so and Friday is gym day!
