I have changed my name.

One of the main reasons I joined SG is because I thought I could express a part of my self that I can't most other places. When I first chose a user name I was trying to think of something cheeky and clever. The thing is, in building profiles, I tend to construct someone I want to be. Or rather, who I want people to think I am. Right down to what bands I list as my favorite.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to improve, hey, no one is perfect. But I need to stop worrying about what other people think and just be my dorky self. So, what is the best username for a neurotic, spastic anglo-biblio-phile ....?

I think I landed on one that suits.

Hello, Dickens. Reading your profile, I was reminded of a quote you may know: "There is nothing better than a friend, unless it is a friend with chocolate." Sounds like something you might say (and in a sense have).

Art history is a fascinating subject, though probably more so to someone who doesn't have to do it for a living (as usual, work spoils everything we love). If you are so inclined I, for one, would love to know more about what you do (a sample of your writing, perhaps).

In fairness, I didn't know Dickens was neurotic and spastic - that's ok, you probably aren't either. Nice to meet you.

Hi, knives2meatyou too.

I have heard that saying, and yes, it does sound like me! Being an art historian, I definitely have to love what I do, and luckily it hasn't spoiled it for me. My views on academia and sales however ... well, that's for another rant. I still find art (and talking about it) endlessly fascinating. Ask anyone who has ventured into a museum with me. I am insufferable!

I was thinking of Dickens more like a double entendre, like describing a mischievous, hyper-active person as a "little dickens." But yes, actually Dickens himself was a complex personality, as most great artists necessarily are.

My writing mainly consists of press releases now. Sigh. Most art history papers require more length and attention that a blog can usually provide. But I'll see if I can't think of something if you're really interested. And hey, thanks for being interested!
