I just saw a fantastic play by Sarah Ruhl! It's called Melancholy Play, and if anyone out there has a chance to see it I highly recommend going. If you're in Seattle, it's playing at the Freehold Theatre in Belltown. I saw Dead Man's Cell Phone last year (also by Ruhl) which was really good, but this one blew me out of the water. It examines the concept of melancholy - it's past, why we don't see it so much in the present - and considers what might happen should melancholy show up again. It's funny, heart-breaking, thoughtful and doesn't take itself too seriously. A perfect theatre experience in my book.
