Another long time between journals, I know, I know...
There's no way I can relate everything that has happened since (ulp) October 22, so here are the details of my two past weekends, and very wonderful they were too:

Saturday 23 October:
With EVK I visit the Son et Lumire exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, an investigation into the use of sound in the visual...

Well actually after the event I am allowed to tell you. First case was a burglary where the guy was so blatantly guilty I don't know why he didn't just plea. The other was a "possetion of a false instrument". Interesting way of saying he had a forged credit card, There just wasn't a case against him. I don't really understand why the CPS bothered to bring it to trial.

Actually the jury process kinda restored my faith in humanity a bit. 21 of the 24 people I sat with made intelligent observations and came to sensible conclusions. did meet a couple of the most stupid people I've ever seen though...

Been kind of distracted recently by work (Kafka, Borges), by the absurd project of going to the cinema 14 times in 14 days (don't try this at home kids) and by my impossible imponderable decision (repeat after me: the first decision was the right decision the first decision was the right decision the first decision was the right decision), so not finding much time for...

Wed-Thu: Dream, all night, about Atsuko. In one dream, she runs into me with her bicycle. Trying to focus on her through the nauseious haze where she's collided with my balls, I ask if there's any chance we might become more than just friends. Later, in another dream, as she's eating pizza and I'm trying to mould my body to hers, she says 'I'll never...

In my research here in Paris, I have been reading various bits of anthropology and, yesterday, came across a lengthy discussion, in Roger Caillois, of the traditional significations of left and right across numerous cultures. Now I have always been proud to be left-handed, but this description just made me even prouder! It seems that, in 'primitive' cultures, left-handed people were often looked upon as...

basically, he know enough to be close enough to correct. which is to say he can guess really well, and somehow imagine the dutch to be like the english (didn't they war at each other for a bit???)

as for your journaly type entries... .your as transparent as a 30 meter window at a bank.

no, no not really. you reveal what you like to, as we all do, and a handful of details otherwise. chances are the dude is just going through your trash and you mail, and secretly wishes, in his secretest hear of hearts, to be the guy who gets woken up by obnoxious construction type like noises.

ok, sorry, too many black and tans to justify a decent answer, but hey, fuggettaboutit.

also, if i were you, which i'm not, i'd go to adelaide, just for the fuck of it. bear in mind i'm up in AK for nearly the same reason, so maybe i'm not the guy to listen to in these situations. whatever the case, tis all about choice; whatever decision you make is bound to be correct, since it's the one you choose.

whoooooo, ok, pasin out now

'It's easy to leave, it's hard to stay behind and rust'

- American Music Club, 'Home'

Friday, in the library, I bumped into two people I know. This is the thing about living in little old Europe, it really is a small world. I went for lunch with Michael, a fellow French cinema scholar, and told him of my Australian dilemma. He said, 'You...

Cutriver.
Ah...you and your copious notes. And rapt attention. Reading, reading, reading. From SG to academia, and back again. Why am I not conversing w/you in French? I'd have to start over. What a fucking sin. Being a beginner, again.

And holding myself accountable? Quoi?

So, I live vicariously through you. You keep talking about some dude named Cutriver who has no life... or you allude to this dude. I know nothing of him. To me you are an *absolute rock star* (damn...I need some glimmery glittery STAR ICONS. For fuck's sake! Nurse...!)

Dreams are virtual. You're correct. And yes, androids do dream of electric sheep.

I missed the bit about marriage. The Jehovah's witness. Or...your wanting to shag her. I really must be better about keeping up with your journal entries.

And yes, damnit. You come and see me...

NOW, DAMN YOU SEXY BASTARD.
miao!!

obviously I need to do some backreading. I'm utterly confused about what's going on in your life right now. It sounds like I've opened up a fascinating novel, in the middle. robot kiss

I spent a weekend at my parents' working in the garden, chopping down undergrowth with a pair of shears, in the hope that this physical labour would help me to reach a balanced decision regarding my life-direction. And, following a phone call from the guy in Adelaide, I began to reconsider my initial decision, thinking that after all, I did like it over there, and...

I didn't consider going to see The Terminal while it was out... There was a small list of movies that demanded being seen in a large screen and Hank's was placed on the 'Waiting for DVD' pile.

Sometimes decisions just are... At other times, your mind's been clearly made up, one just waits to be reminded of that. I think that luckily you find yourself between one good situation or another. Not matter the outcome, you win. I hope that you have some sedentary enjoyment in your future. wink

Last night I took HD and Atsuko to see English singer-songwriter Caroline Martin play at a venue I've never been to before called Egypt Cottage. Aside from the three of us, the whole place was populated by lesbians. Now how is it I could have listened so intently to Caroline Martin's bewitching songs and never realised that she's a big ole dyke? And I thought...

Terror is fairly accurate description. Being that my past life of investigator/body guard/security I freak the hell out in crowds that I cannot see in. I usually opt for higher ground, but this time I did not as Troy seemed to have some of the same anxiety I did. He is only a few inches taller than I am.

Swoo will understand. He's one of those people I think I might run into one day...it's just this feeling but I really feel like our paths might cross one day...you ever feel that way. I've often said that I never in a million years thought I'd meet...then I meet them, so why not the other way around? wink

My pal Murray, with his usual perspicacity (like all my closest and wisest friends, Murray is a Pisces), soon makes me admit that what I'm really looking for by moving to Australia is a girlfriend and that this is a pretty stupid reason to emigrate to the other side of the world...

Nonetheless, there are other reasons...

In Sydney, I get a ferry across the...

Indeed.

Congrats on the offer, regardless of whether you take it or not. Perhaps it is time to start a new adventure?

I think all children should be tranquilized before getting on the plane. I freak out badly when flying, so having screaming child A, plus those kinds of winds. AGGGHHHH!

[I wrote a journal in Singapore airport, but my fifteen-minute allotted time on the free internet connection reached an end just as I pressed 'save entry'. It wasn't anything special - just remarks about how the journey was easier than I expected and my admiration for the Qantas stewardesses' 1970s brown dresses covered in boomerangs... I think I'd like to see RoseMarie in one of...

I lived in Omaha while in college and have family just outside of Des Moines... The feel of impermanence I've felt their is due to everything being so new, un-ancient. There isn't any building there older than 150. Culturally, anything that lacks purpose for more than month or two seems to get paved over.

I dragged my better half to Before Sunset while it was still in the theaters here. I was a fan of the first movie and of Linklater in general. This also happened to be when you were in Paris and interspersed with my absolute enjoyment were thoughts of, "I hope Cutriver gets to see this!" biggrin Julie Delpy's Simone saunter had me giggling.

Another long but very pleasant evening out with Atsuko. As we wait and wait for service in an Italian restaurant, she drinks one glass of red wine and I drink the remainder of the bottle. Then, later, over juice and water in a caf bar, she talks to me of her relationship with 'the JWs', wincing and tittering and retreating into herself as she seeks...
