Friday night on my way home from work I stopped by a bar in NJ to meet my sister and her husband for a drink. There were these two drunk guys sitting next to them talking at them-all drunk and sloppy. It turns out they lived across the street from James (my sister's husband) growing up. They've been drunk and high since they were like...

I was born and raised down in Alabama, on a farm way back up in the woods.
My papa was a great old man I can see him with a shovel in his hand. One day papa called me to his dyin bed
Put his hands on my shoulders And in tears he said
"Patches, I'm depending on you son, to pull the family through....

But I'm sure that the bucolic splendour of Rutherford reminds you of your days on the farm...wink

And, yes, I am the first non-hottie to comment on this journal entry. Clearly, it didn't need to be done!

"Everything happens for a reason."

You hear that all the time, don't you? I certainly have friends who say it. Every time someone's gerbil dies or someone misses getting crowned Miss Cumquat or whatever, people get all philosophical on you and tell you that "everything happens for a reason".
Well I'd like to extend that thinking a bit. Suppose everything DOES happen for a reason....

So this is my Thanksgiving thought: when I was a kid we were in a Thanksgiving play were we played turkeys . We sang "Gobble gobble gobble gobble I think I should run away/gobble gobble gobble gobble on this thanksgiving day"-obviously referring to the fact that they were going to be eaten. And all the kids were dressed up as turkeys. Very cute.

But if...

I don't have time to update, damnit! These flying killer monkey robots aren't going to build themselves!

jeez!

What's your favorite movie? Mine is "Saw III"-where George Bailey learns the true meaning of Christmas and his life's own worth when an angel shows him what a difference he's made in his little town.

Oh wait-that's not not "Saw III" is it? Shit! I sent my...

Doin alright here...missing my little car (even though she is just a car, I've had it for over seven years...first car, learned how to drive on it, lots of memories, etc.).

I'm kind of looking forward to gorging myself on all kinds of good vegan food this week. With the Tofurky I'm making homemade apple crisp (not your elementary school stick-to-the-bowl kind of apple crisp), pumpkin carob chip cupcakes with vegan buttercream frosting, and homemade biscuits. It's gonna be so good!!! I can't wait smile I've never had organic wine, so this will be a first for me. I've heard it's really good though (and even better for you than regular wine).

I'm not looking forward to the eventual snow, especially because I'm getting used to another car. But, I've heard we might have a mild winter this year, so there is still hope.

If I don't talk to you before then, enjoy your Thanksgiving!!

remember the day after the 2004 election when we said that we'd get things right in 2006?

I had no idea how right we'd get it.

I'm just waiting to see Macacawitz finally voted out. Keep counting, Virginia!!!

I did a student film with Clare Kramer

eeek

love

I'm trying my best to convey a benign yet distinct sense of envy. But, then, it seems as though you, sir, are very popular with the ladies so it might all just commonplace for you, my friend. wink

Are you referring to the excellent Goober Grape?

OK, so maybe it's not technically excellent, but I still have polished off a few jars in my life. Which, of course, might help to explain why *I* am not quite so popular with the ladies.

SG seems to have many excellent members in the metro New York area. I think that I should figure a way to get a 4- or 5-day trip back there in 2007 as opposed to the quick-hit visits I've been doing for years now.

surlymike:

perhaps I didn't make it clear that Clare Kramer barely spoke two words to me.

So she *did* say one word to you. Ahh, you da man!

"ARE YOU ALIVE?"

"ARE YOU ALIVE?"

The voice was urgent. It was yelling at me wouldn't let me be. I'd hear it in bed at night listening to the radio low so that my parents couldn't hear. I'd hear it in the factory towns near where I grew up. I'd hear it in the voices of those people I watched trudge to jobs they hated...

Ok, I'm not one of those people who send funny You Tube videos to my friends, but I've been obsessed with this guy FOREVER. I have this on videotape and I've shown everyone I know and it's FINALLY on You Tube (I tried uploading it myself but I'm an idiot and couldn't do it)

A little backstory: in 1987 when Stanley Kubrick made "Full Metal...

I'm mere seconds into the video and it's already amusing me greatly.

Is that sentiment of his genuine? He couldn't be more of a-hole if he tried. A very high score indeed on the Unintentional Comedy Scale.

Perhaps you should track down Mr. Atene and write a letter to him to express your appreciation for his comedic talents? biggrin

I got in work at 6:30 yesterday morning and I was going through the stuff at my desk and smaking myself to wake myself up when this guy Peter, one of our construction PAs ambles up to me and asks for a worker's comp form because one of our carpenters "cut his finger" on a table saw and was going to the hospital. No big...
