Well you can use Illustrator for layout but InDesign is much better at it. More robust options for type, bleed & slug, and file handling. It also accepts native .ai and .psd files. One of the things I love is that you can turn off layers from with InDesign without opening up Illustrator and Photoshop. If you are going to be doing more layout I highly recommend you getting a copy.
