I've put in an application on a Deep Oakland loft.

It's what I was looking for: Lots of open space that's mine to play with and build out into my lair. Cheap. Nixon originally recommended it on the strength of it's lard delivery hardware, which we must admit, is impressive.

It's is also in the proximity of many awesome things. Ecce:

I have a mac question--might you be willing to offer some help?

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

I partitioned my hard drive, running virtual box, installed windows xp, so I can run both os x and windows--cuz the webcam site I wanna hook up with only works with windows for some bizarre reason--but I cannot for the life of me get it to recognize my webcam (not the built in webcam on the macbook, a separate webcam) and all the help sites I've checked just say to do what I'm doing over and over again and also to sacrifice a small child and then maybe it'll work. No luck so far.

Good luck with the loft!

2 days and 1,600 miles down.

Caught a muffelata and beignets in New Orleans with SexyBeast.

Almost had a wheel fall off my car in Austin.

Kicking back in a cheap hotel in Tucson, now.

See you tomorrow, LA.

I will double check with her, but I imagine it should be ok, as it is in its own separate bedroom and has its own separate bath as well. I will get back to you later today.
anemilee:
Ah, excellent...I was wondering about that! So you'll be in town on the 6th???

Hmmm...San Antonio...I ought to be able to answer this one...
The central library is rather nice (it's a color known as enchilada red, and an interesting piece of architecture). The botanical gardens and the McNay Art Museum are also worth checking out. The alamo is rather overrated, but then again, I'm from there. I'd tell you to go look up the rents, but they'll actually be in Peru.

Also, you MUST eat a taco, or at least order a dozen tortillas, from Taco Cabana. Do it for the children.
Oh, and the Liberty Bar at 328 Josephine Street is an interesting place to eat...it's very...slanty.

12 hours before I step out of a European hotel for the last time for this while. Then onto a plane for the long flight back stateside.

You know I'm looking forward to getting a computer again and diving back into creating.

I'm also looking forward to having a place of my own again, and feathering that nest. It will be strangely feathered, of course....

Thank you. That's a really great point. I have an ING account that I always forget about, so that might be a good option. It's not hard to get money out of it, but it's not part of my daily bank account system.

Yeah! SF Bay Area FTW!

There's no replacement for the thing itself. I'm chomping at the bit (or the byte) to get back to coding on my game. No amount of reading about iPhone coding, studying coding theory, or scribbling down concepts for the game scratches that same itch.

And yet I have a week to kill in London. Nothing feels less satisfying or more meaninglessly self indulgent right now...

Life remains good.

The thing about being a programmer and having your computer stolen is, it makes you stop, and think.

You can't work. What's more, the distractions you first turn to vanish at the same time. So if there's something you were avoiding thinking, you don't get to hide from it anymore.

Here's the thought I'd been hiding from:
I've been ready to be...

Does this mean GPTV is getting turned off sooner?

Sorry to hear your computer got stolen, when and where did that happen?

Whereabouts are you staying at the moment and will you be able to get to London for Friday? There is one cinema I would like to see the film in, Apollo - Piccadilly Circus, but I don't know if they will have it on the night. Hopefully they do as it would be easy for everyone to get to/from.

Nice try, world. You need to be sneakier than that to get me down.

My hostel has a sign warning that their Internet service may not be used for pornographic purposes, and that the police may be notified if we do. Meanwhile, on the telly, BBC3 is showing boobs on a tour of sex clubs.

Oooooh...you just expanded my knowledge of geography! I had to look some of those places up! Do you have a timetable on the very slim chance that I actually make it out of the country this year (I assume your flight back to Lalaland coincides with PAX)?
