i finished working about an hour and a half ago. my boss and i shot 2 games of pool and talked deep about some friends and some family. i had a couple drinks, and now i'm having a couple more. i really dig what life has thrown at me lately. my brother's kids are getting older and cooler. kristi is so into art at age 11. she is so good and original. it's cool to watch someone that i've know since their birth grow up and be so fucking cool. it'll be neat to have a beer with her and paint together when we're adults. her birthday was thursday. i got her a huge box of crayons, spider pens, glitter paint sticks, a 50 pack markers, and a huge sketch book. i hope she likes it.
anyway, i don't play a lot of music these days. i do a lot of kung fu, i work, and i drink.
i used to play in a bluegrass band, and we were really fucking good. it was hilarious though. i had gigantic dreadlocks to my waist, and the other 4 guys were like 35, shaved heads, tattoos, hard as nails, and awesome musicians. we all played in punk and hard core bands together until my buddy brian decided to pick up the banjo and write all these bluegrass songs. we all started up with him, so before you know it, we're this great local thing with 4 part harmonies and fantastik sound, but to look at us you feel like you don't want to miss church on sunday. anyway i found a tape of that shit today. i haven't heard it in like 5 years. i was having the best time driving around listening to my old bluegrass shit. we must've had 30 songs. all original. so fun. well who fucking cares anyway ...merry christmas

societyspliers:
Wild shit about the Hardcore band turnign into bluegrass - My old band in the early 80s slowly started morphing into bluesgrass - our bassist who was expert on any instrument, started teaching mandolin and we started doing Ballad of Jed Clampett and a bluegrassy Gilligan's Island (both with altered lyrics). Our drummer was double-Mohawked with a bone through his nose - I was intentionally hippied out - Jimi Hendrix Tie-Dye and long hair and big beard I grew just to not look like everyone else in the band. We started doing more bluegrass and then started into psychedelic sort of jams and gradually became a twisted amoebic entity with no single style. I remember hearing a Butthole Surfers album (we opened for them once) where they had broadened their horizons. Peace
