I decided it would be more fun to strap on my discman and walk to the store. It's not too far... maybe a mile or so... and there are a couple of hills.
The problem is that there are some panhandlers in my neighborhood who piss me off every night. I can't tell you how many times this lady asks if I can take her and her kids home when she sees me getting into my car. Just ask NoPantsDave. He had some woman knock on his door at 3:00 AM to ask for laundry money.
That said, I live in a fairly safe neighborhood full of nice, historic apartments. It's certainly not the worst area in town, and it's desired by students.
Anyway, I was walking along, and I saw two guys standing near the coffee shop. One of them crossed the street to where I was walking and just stood there... waiting...
I took off my headphones, and he said, "Hey there. Got any spare change for coffee or cigarettes?"
You know, it's one thing to ask me for money for food, but COFFEE and CIGARETTES?
I snapped, "Quit smoking, and get a job," before I put my headphones on and continued walking.
Maybe that was risky, but people like that piss me off.

By the way, i would like to point out that the number of homeless in Atlanta has at least tripled in the "not a recession" that just happened to arrive with our current president's administration.
