Today went a lot better than expected. We didn't go berry picking since the berries weren't ripe yet -- Michigan has had frost advisories into June -- so we spent some time by the harbor. God, I miss living on a Great Lake. I could have sat there all day.
The graduation party went well. Dad played horseshoes while Mom and I talked with the aunts. I hadn't seen some people in almost two years (or more), so it was fun. We ate golabki, kielbasa, pierogies, homemade bread, and lots of fresh fruit and veggies. My Polish accent slipped to the surface within an hour, and after an afternoon with the aunts it was full-throttle. It always slips when I talk to Dad for a long time, so I'm not sure what three weeks up here has done to me. I'm catching myself using lots of phrases and words that I'd pushed down when I left.
I kinda like it, though.
(Horseshoes is a Polish male tradition and quite popular in northern Michigan. You put two metal stakes about 20-30 feet apart and surround each stake with a little sand pit. Then, you partner up with someone, and each team stays at their stake. In turns, you and then your partner throw two metal horseshoes apiece at the other stake, and you assign points based on distance and "ringers" (getting the horseshoe around the stake). Each team takes turns to avoid killing each other. This is always played with a cooler full of beer.)
I took pictures, which will be posted as part of my vacation webpage -- expect that in July.
I leave tomorrow around 4:00 PM, and then I'll be wandering Mid and Lower Michigan for a few days. I won't have my computer hooked up, so leave lots of witty comments for me to read when I get back to K-Zoo.
Dobranoc!

I've only now noticed you happened to mention two of my three favorite actresses in this post, now about a month old. Which, I suppose, makes this one of those flighty, annoying, un-replyable comments having nothing to do with the above journal entry. So sorry.
