Flame me all you want, but I'm not enjoying Lolita at ALL. I feel like I'm plodding through each chapter, and now that Humbert actually has Lolita, I figured he'd stop whining. NO. He's still whining about how he wishes he could have her more and all to himself and so on.
I want to smack him every time he touches her, and I feel sick whenever I read about how trapped she is. I actually got nauseous during a couple of scenes.
Part of me wants to put the book down, but I could never live with myself if I didn't finish it. Luckily, I'm near the end.
I know it's supposed to be a fabulous book -- and it IS very well-written -- but I'm just not enjoying the actual story.
Do I, as a literature major suck? Possibly. Then again, I can't stand "Hamlet", and they're allowing me to receive my degree.

If it's any consolation, I hated Lolita. I just found it really boring. Never finished reading it. No idea how I passed that English class...Probably the Cliff Notes...
