I watched a great movie a couple nights ago, called Primer. It's complex, challenging, and a little confusing, but boy does it pay off.

If you liked Donnie Darko, there's a very good chance you'll like Primer.

My man has also recommended the movie Primer, due to the very fact that Donnie Darko is one of my fave movies. Nice to realise that he's not completely full of shit. wink
wren:
Donnie Darko kind of freaked me out. I thought Frank was creepy.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Grevious Festivous, Seasons Greetings, Blessed Solstice, Happy Kwanzaa.

And how did I forget Newtonmas? Because I didn't learn about its glorious existance until forty-six seconds ago.

Don't shoot your eye out.

I made a new Podcast. This one is really long, about 37 minutes, but the feedback on it is very positive, so maybe I'm not the best judge of what rules and what sucks.

read the Salon article.... I hate to see that kind of stuff happen, but at least he came to you after to smooth things over. He only dose it because he cares. If you were just some schlep off the street he probebly would've just shruged it off (not that I presume to know you dad). I take that same stance here whit politics. I only agrue with the people who's opinions I care about. That and parents never stop seeing their children as children I don't think.

Funny how people change, isn't it? I think the oddest has to be David Horowitz. Editor of the righty site frontpagemag.com. He was born and raised comunist, now he's conservative.

"Strength lies not in being steadfast for your ideology, but in entertaining the possibility that the other guy may be right."

I liked "Lakeside Shadow." I'm going to pass it along to a friend of mine who is composes industrial music. He's a trek fan too, but I'm not too sure who he feals about your old character. He used to stream shows from his website, Darksonic.com, but he's been in semi retirement for a while now. He's kind of my musical Obi wan Kanobi....

keith:
Hey Wil. I also read the Salon article, and it really struck a familiar note. I've seen the same thing happen in my family. The week Hurricane Katrina happened, my conversations with my grandmother (who raised me) were almost in agreement -- shock and outrage at the government's reaction and sympathy for the victims. A few months later, however, she's calling them 'bums' and 'freeloaders', implying that the crime rate has gone up wherever they are housed, and saying that, if there were any incompetence, it was the mayor of New Orleans and the governor of Louisiana.

The interesting thing is she doesn't even listen to talk radio or watch Fox News -- she gets this crap from fucking email forwards of mysterious (and suspicious) origin. They're passed on by her friends and people from church, so she believes them! And even if I refute the whole thing point by point, she'll just say "Well I've just got to go with my gut."

Well, what can you do?

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

I did another Podcast tonight, which includes an audio diary of my day around town.

This week's show is much, much smaller than episode zero, weighing in at a much friendlier 13.3 MB, but still just over 30 minutes. I'm still not ready for primetime, but I feel much more comfortable than I did last week, and had a great time putting this together.

I am embarrassed to admit that I just now figured out who you are. All this time I thought you were a hard science writer who occasionally dropped by the boards to share some interesting bit of background research.

Not that this in any way matters. I just wanted to share today's moment of zen.
redheadedleague:
Good stuff. I liked the audio diary; you can't beat those random car thoughts. I will be waiting for the next one. (Listened to it while doing GM prep work, actually.)

Here's an idea - how about a semi-regular BSG review?

BTW, I completely agree with your rant enough, tagging is one of the more pathetic varieties of dick swinging out there.

Okay, so is Bill O'Reilly just batshit crazy out of his mind, or is he really one of the most repugnant and disgusting waste of life to ever have a voice in the public spotlight, in the last twenty years?

I finally broke down and created a podcast. It's called Radio Free Burrito, and I released my pilot episode tonight.

It's not perfect, but it's not entirely horrbile, either.

Check it out at WWdN:iX and let me know what you think.

Good podcast. biggrin Shoot for 30 minutes, this one had a good flow to it, and it was almost 30 minutes.

I suppose it's like talk radio in a sense. You have to keep the thing flowing so people don't get bored with it. But, I'm just speculating.....
dannie:
was great and answered at your site too

If you've been under a rock today (and apparently, I have been until about seven minutes ago) the mozilla foundation released Firefox 1.5. So far, I am very impressed.

Do you ever find a weird and totally unexpected song hooking itself into your head?

I don't mean walking out of a store and discovering that you're now singing the album version of the Muzak you heard, or getting "Sweet Home Alabama" stuck in your head because someone mentioned the state to you.

I mean, suddenly, without warning or explaination, a random song explodes into...

The worst for me is getting part of a song stuck in my head that I don't really even know and am not sure what it's from. So then I'm just on a continuous loop of melody and disjointed lyrics desperately hoping that I'll hear the song (or songs!) it came from and be able to put it to rest. Fortunatley when this happens, I can sing my heart out to my cat and she won't tell anyone. I think she mocks me, though.
rj:
Oddly enough, I had that happen to me with my college's fight song.

I graduated two years ago.

Soooo . . . The Simpsons manages to tackle the California recall election tonight.

That's some real timely political satire, guys. Bravo.

Clap.
Clap.
Clap.

wilwheaton:
is that the golf clap they're getting there?

Actually, it's the sarcastic clap, which is an oblique reference to an old episode of The Simpsons (which was actually funny) where Homer sings a song about how he has a crush on Mindy and Lisa catches him in the act.
wilwheaton:
Holy shit. The episode I referenced is currently on here in Los Angeles.

GOOCHER!
