There are all these people walking around Vancouver tonight in white wigs and tight dresses, apparently because Lady Gaga is doing her thing in concert tonight.
I've managed to avoid Lady Gaga all but one time (I had to sing Poker Face at a con for Rock Band, and it was more fun than it should have been), so I put her first album into...

I hated that site from the first day I logged in... gave it a fair shot, but it just annoyed the shit out of me.

Your Geek in Review should be about w00tstock, of course. Take us behind the scenes of that great geek event and let us know how it happens.
I'm about to bail on SG, by the way, as part of a penny-scrounging initiative while our house is on the market. So don't write anything SO awesome for Geek in Review that I have to lament and shake my fist if I miss it. Medium-awesome material only until I get back.

I don't do this very often, but I hope you'll head over to my blog and read this post about Zoe Keating, and how NPR stole her music.

I'm loving the Penny Arcade podcast!
And now, the Bush legacy:
...the cost of a family health insurance premium has gone up 87%; the number of uninsured people has gone up 19%; the number of families living in poverty has gone up 19%; real median household income has dropped 1%; and corporate profits have gone up 68%.
Bush was a great president . . . for the ultra-wealthy and corporations, who...

Hopefully thats directed in the right direction.
It's nearly midnight on Christmas Eve. All the work is finally done, and we've got The Yule Log going on two TVs in the house. TiVo is grabbing it, too, so I can fire it up in the morning.
It's been a bitch of a season, but now that it's here, I'm actually happy about it.
Happy Xmas, everybody!

Merry Christmas, Mr. Wheaton.
Yeah, I'm late ... but there's still an hour and a half left of it on your coast.

This Sunday, I'm joining Missy and Erin on SG Radio to talk about Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and video games.
We're going to seriously rock it out, so I hope you'll tune in if you're able. We're talking phone calls, is all I'm saying . . .

Grr.
It's totally cool that Missy counterpointed me. I like that.
My counter-counterpoint: The point isn't that the SGs are in danger or anything like that. The point is that this film glorifies violence against women and the producer's remarks about women in general -- and the SGs in particular -- feel very misogynistic to me.

Thank you for writing the article... some friends and I were discussing it, all in general agreement with you, and came to the conclusion that had anyone but you authored that opinion, they probably would have been zotted.
At the very least, the article would not have seen the light of day.
My hope is that the girls have a great time, and it wouldn't hurt if they don't fit his crude expectations. We'll see, I suppose.
Again, thank you...

Wil, you hit a home run with this piece, Missy sounded like she just wanted to say the Girls were still empowered being there. Good to see so many other men can look past the pictures and see what the site is, and what its about! (God! I sound almost... *GASP* EMO!)
Oh, oh... I was reading your story WFS: Part 1 and sadly it took me about 5 minutes to find Part 2! As a Columnist, you might have the power to suggest that the site lets us go logically from story to story (chronologically?) via links; if you think thats a good idea...

My wife pointed something out to me earlier this week: every single day, you'll encounter a monkey reference.
Now that you know about it, you'll see. Come back here and share, mmkay? No fair using this as your monkey reference, either. You have to encounter it unintentionally and naturally in the course of your day.
Okay go!

Hey man, I just wanted to thank you for recommending Old Man's War in your journal. I finished it last night, and it was a great read. I wish every book I read moved that smoothly.
So yesterday, I played in the Pot-limit Omaha high-low split event in the WCOOP at PokerStars.
1303 people entered, many of them the very best PLO/8 players in the world.
Somehow, I managed to play smart, get lucky a couple of times, not get unlucky a couple of times, and finish 70th.
Holy shit. I finished 70th out of 1303 players, many of them the...

I just read your rant "A Statement of Conscience". I find myself with little audience on the grandstage. I am grateful that you were able to put such eloquence to feelings that I greatly share. Even though you want to be "just this guy" and while you are, you aren't. You have a fan-base that is created from your past existence in acting and celebrity (though I don't mean that in the Paris Hilton sense) and has grown greatly from your own efforts in writing and your blog. It's wonderful when those with larger audiences are willing to speak up to get their points across to a wide readership. I realize now that to an extent it is my responsibility to motivate those that I encounter on the small scale/local level to act for changes that would put an end to this regime. Thank you for reminding me that my thoughts matter and I can attempt change things if I want to and not just move to Canada when things fail to go my way.

Very cool. I just got back from vegas last night, but I was too busy working to play any poker. Such a crime.
I'm late to the party on this, but I picked up She Wants Revenge a few days ago, and finally listened to the first few songs yesterday.
I like this album a lot, and I've decided that this band and Interpol should embrace the fact that they sound just like Joy Division and do covers of She's Lost Control and 24 Hours.

See, I can't listen to this band at all because they are so blatently ripping of Interpol, and offering nothing new. Which, of course, is the same reason I dislike Interpol, only relating to Joy Division. On the plus side, there are at least 3 Interpol songs worth a listen.
kestrel:
Yes, that's the greatest soundtrack ever, for featuring the best band ever.
I met DeVotchka last week, and they're also the greatest people in the world.
Also, that's likely the best movie of the year.
