A friend of mine is an air traffic controller here in Regina. He always bugs me that he's going to get rid of the birds I study by turning them into bird strikes. He gets this funny look on his face and goes 'bird strike!' while pretending to throw birds through the engines.

That'll be tricky - the cartoons these days are nowhere near as innocent/fun as the ones you mentioned - they're either advertisements, lessons delivered with a hammer or sly adult cartoons pretending to be for kids but without the style and fun of Rocky and Bullwinkle, or some combination of the three.
I'd recommend taking them to the park or into the country with a bunch of their friends and playing for hours - it'll be ALOT more fun and better for everybody.
